4.3.4.1 Promoting science and scientific culture, particularly among young people

a) Improved communication and dialogue between the scientific community and the public on issues of European relevance, emphasising the role of audio-visual media.


Short description of possible activities

Project enhancing interest of young people in science and technology and in research activities as well as raising public awareness of certain scientific area. Target group – young people, children and wide public.

Possible scenario: The topic which is vital for nowadays society (e.g. cloning, nuclear energy, nanotechnology, etc.) will be presented to wide public in an amusing way which will raise interest of wide public in this topic and will explain main issues in an understandable way. E.g. FRDB network students can prepare this work in their countries. During the week in Florence they can communicate these issues to Florentine public in a form like theatre performance, fashion show, street performances, street communication to people, giving specialised toys to children, etc.

Short description of possible activities

These Conferences and Training Courses will enable junior researchers to benefit from the experience of leading researchers. Support will be given to specific training activities (including virtual ones) that highlight particular European achievements and interests.

A series of events may combine conference-style events, with more practical events (schools or practical training courses) as described below. In order to be eligible, a project should include at least 4 events. There is no upper limit in the number of events per project. The events within a proposed series should together make a coherent training plan. Where they cover several themes, their grouping together should be justified from a scientific and/or training point of view or from an organisational point of view.

The number of attendees (with or without Community support) in each event will typically not exceed 150

Short description of possible activities

Opportunity for researchers to be trained in the Member or Associated Country (1-2 years) and to reintegrate in the country of their origin (min. 2 years) to establish research links between states and organisations.

72 000 € and 185 000 €

6th Framework Programme - Human Resources and mobility - Marie Curie Chairs

Short description of possible activities

These Chairs will be awarded for the purpose of making top-level appointments, in particular to attract world-class researchers and encourage them to resume their careers in Europe. This scheme may be developed in synergy with the host-driven actions.

This action supports world-class researchers for a period of research and lecturing at a host institution (e.g. an organisation of higher education) in a Member State, or Associated State.

This action should also attract European researchers of world reputation who are active outside the Member States or Associated States and to encourage them to resume or further develop their careers in Europe.


Contribution of the EU to the planned budget




Project duration

The post should be full-time or comprise a minimum of 70% of a full-time position over the course of one academic year, of which at least half should be spent on teaching, supervising research and thesis work.

The Chairs can be funded for a period of normally three years but shorter periods (not less than one year) may be accepted.

Short description of possible activities

Project focusing at involving university students from different countries to work on reconstruction of frescoes in physical and virtual way comparing and combining both approaches involving students from the field of art object restoration and technology. The deliverable will be the educational documentary providing the methodology of the project work.
