Water was murky green at Horace Caldwell Pier. Mostly bull reds, sharks and trout were caught this week before the front off the pier. Website: www.thepierhouse.net. Gulf beachfront - Driving has been difficult on Padre Island National Seashore. Fishing has been slow. Water was murky green at Bob Hall Pier. Water temperature was 75 degrees. A DAY AT BOB HALL !!! For the past 6 or 7 days the pier reports big bull reds and some keeper reds. Some, gafftop, black tip shark, Spanish mackerel and whiting are also being reported. Cut bait is the bait being most used. 11-22-02

Fishing this month has been steady. The bull reds and legal reds are still being caught everyday, using dead shrimp and cut bait as well, on bottom. Some small shark are being reported and time to time when the sun is out a few spanish macs. Some whitting, sand trout, and perch. Sand Trout are best caught under the lights at night using live or fresh dead shrimp. 11-14-03
"Fishing is great," at Horace Caldwell Pier. Anglers caught redfish, black drum, trout, shark, whiting and a croaker during the week. 11-22-03
Horace Caldwell Pier reports that even though it was "a little windy" Tuesday, fishing was "pretty good." Anglers are still bringing in redfish, speckled trout, shark, big croaker and some whiting. SSOR 12-6-03 Horace Caldwell Pier said anglers are continuing to catch redfish, drum, speckled trout and whiting as well as some big gafftop. 12-29-03
The pier reported some good fish being caught over the past few days. The big story is the pompano, and the whiting that are coming in and they are bigger than usual. Many fisherman are taking home very nice size pompano, and very large whiting! There was a 7ft.black tip caught off the end of the pier only a couple a days ago. Big Black drum are being found all over the pier, but mostly past the second gut. Sheep head are also around the pylons, use a very small hook, and a small piece of shrimp. It will be hard to get past all the little bait fish that hang out next to the pylons as well, but once in a while a nice sheep head will take it first! Horace Caldwell Pier said anglers had been catching flounder, speckled trout and whiting off the pier.[/url] 12-11-04
Headed out to the beach to do some fishing before my finials on monday. Ended up with 2 blacktips, a bull, 3 slot reds, 3 spanish, and a bunch of bluefish. Was a great day on the beach! Jason 12-3-05

Redfish mostly were along the National Seashore with a few sharks caught before the front. Pompano also were good in spots, and are expected to return when weather stablizes. Look for them in the third gut. Driving has been good with tides so low. At Bob Hall Pier, fishing was good this past week before the front. Mostly sharks, bull reds, nighttime flounder, pompano, whiting and sand trout were being caught. 12-16-05 Gulf beachfront - Surf-fishing had been decent for big reds along with black drum in clear water before the front. Pompano were south of the 20-mile marker in the third gut mostly on Fishbites and shrimp. Whiting are big and plentiful everywhere. Driving is good during low tide, but lots of debris is up high during high tide. At Bob Hall Pier, fishing was good this past week before the front. Mostly black drum, croaker, slot reds, pompano, whiting and sand trout were being caught. The pier's bait & tackle shop is open 24/7. Microwavable food and drinks are available at the tackle shop. But Thursday, good numbers of pompano and whiting were caught this week by anglers using shrimp, ghost shrimp and Fishbites/shrimp, mostly south of the 10-mile marker. The bigger fish are deeper in the third gut on a combination of Fishbites and shrimp. Driving is excellent and the water looked better the farther south anglers go. A few reds also were caught along the National Seashore and just south of Bob Hall Pier this week, mostly on shrimp/Fishbites or frozen mullet. It was a bad week for trout. At Bob Hall Pier, fishing was pretty good this week. WENT OUT TODAY, 3/15/06 THE WATER HAD A NICE COLOR, IT WAS GREEN LOTS OF WAVES PAST THE HIGH WAY.MAIN PROBLEM WAS THE WEED, FISHED FOR A WHILE ABOUT HOUR AND AHALF. CAUGHT SOME SMALL WHITING ON SHRIMP. AND ON ONE REEL I USED A NEW PENNY GULP, FOUR OR FIVE INCHES LONG THAT GOT BIT BELOW THE HOOK. I went past the 20mm today 3/15 and never got out of the weed. Water was clearing and warming. Lost a few shrimp.... when I slung them off. There was a lot of bait in the surf. Got somewhat skunked. I guess the weed is here to stay. 3-15-18, 2006 Some smacks among a lot of other fish. See 17th below 3-17-06 By friday we realized that our annual fish fry was going to be lite if we didn't catch some keeper fish. So we set our sites on the ever present White fish and cleaned up on "Bull" Whiting! Most were 16-19" long by the time the day was over we had enough for three meals!!! Mansfield Jetties 3-17-18, 2006 Report from PINS. Weed was bad but I was able to keep the big rigs out for a while. Long enough to land a couple of spanish mackerels. Gulf beachfront - Most anglers stayed off the beach this week. Not only is driving treacherous, sargassum is in the surf and the water has been murky even though winds calmed Friday. Before the winds came, jacks, drum and sharks were along the National Seashore. A few whiting and drum also were caught in the surf. At Bob Hall Pier. mostly whiting and hardheads were caught during high winds. 3-26-06
Fished at the #12 water was clear with no new weed. Driving was fair, water was chilly, seen ole lopped ear at the #10. Hooked up with a 17"-18" sheepshead, several large whiting, and a 20" permit fish all caught on dead shrimp. Digonme and i will be headed down next weekend, what is the driving cond. past the 20#. 4-1-06 Gulf beachfront - Jack crevalle were caught near the 20-mile marker on the National Seashore. Pompano and reds were at the High Banks. Not much bait in the surf. But there is lots of sargassum. Water is clearing down south. Driving is driving is not bad. A few whiting and drum also were caught in the surf. At Bob Hall Pier. Anglers caught mostly whiting, bull reds and nighttime sharks. Lighter winds allowed anglers back on the beach this week. A few trout were caught with Bass Assassins near rafts of sargassum in clearing water. Jack crevalle are expected to return to the National Seashore. Pompano and reds were at the High Banks before the winds. Bait is back in the surf. But there was lots of sargassum. Driving is not bad because of low tide. At Bob Hall Pier, anglers caught mostly whiting, bigger sharks, mackerel, pompano, sand shark and nighttime sharks. A few tarpon were spotted this week 4-8-06
BHP: I was there Saterday afternoon until about 3:30 pm. I saw two large reds caught. One was in the gut area and it looked to be around 30"'s, the other was much larger. Both fish were kept and both appeared to have tags. Many small bonnet heads were caught and I caught the largest whiting I have ever seen. It had to be nearly 3 lbs. I thoght it was a rat red at first. Drum on BHP. 4-15-06

Yesterday, multiple high and low tides. Water was moving all day. Spanish Mackerel all over the jetty. You don't even have to walk out. Reds at the end of the jetties. Sporadic trout. 5-18-06
Went down to about the 15mm this morning. Caught a bunch of whiting and a few hardhead. The water clarity was pretty good considering the windy day and wave action. The seaweed was much better than last weekend. Tried topwaters, shrimp, and cut whiting. Didn't see much bait in the surf. 6-3-06
C.H., Matty Mae, Richard and I boxed six 2- to 3-lb pompano and 44 whiting at PINS. Caught the pomps in about 7 casts from atop the far bar in the vicinity of Coyote Pass (M.P. 33), then they were done. Broke my line in the wade gut at the 40 on a redfish I sight-casted to with my 14-foot rod. Must have had a frayed spot at the knot. We were using the usual dead shrimp and Fish'n Strip combo. 9-29-30, 2006 This past weekend we were blessed with millions of mullet and crystal clear water. Well, that is something I cannot stand when I fish on PINS. We used every type of bait possible, but there just was not any hungry fish. I am pretty sure the reds and trout were tired of having to swim around all those mullet. Friday started off bad with a flat tire at the 15 in the sidewall. We tried to plug it and the plugs blew out at the 19; that is where we set up camp. We fished hard all night Friday and all day Saturday, and by Saturday night we were beat to the ground. I could not tell you how many skipjacks we caught on artificials, it was ridiculous. We did end up with 10 mangrove snapper and 78 or so whiting, that should be enough for fish nuggets for the family. Saturday we yakked out 9 baits for shark and had a few runs, but as our luck would have it, no hookups. We learned a couple of things this trip, but this will make us a better angler for the next trip. Here are a few pictures. 10-28-06
We hit the beach around 2pm on Saturday and set up camp about 1-2 miles past the 20MM. We immediately start catching Reds and could have all limited out, but ran out of mullet and room in the ice chest. Here are some highlights of the trip. 10-29-30, 2006 Welp....not much to report on. The water was great on Sunday. Some dead seaweed, but nothing that could not be handled. We only caught mullet and a few whiting for bait. We did bring plenty of frozen baits. We also found a fresh dead jackfish on the beach. I placed out one whole frozen jackfish (about a 20#er), a frozen 20" black drum, a frozen bluerunner, and several fresh 10" mullet. Phil placed fresh half of jack, frozen bonito, and fresh 10" mullet. Earl placed a fresh jackfish and a frozen ladyfish. 11-8-06
A friend of mine and I hit the beach around 8:45 yesterday morning. We found some finger mullet around the 4 MM and loaded up the bait bucket. We headed down to the 18 MM. The water was clear and waves were about 2' high. Beautiful day to be at the beach. It was a little slow. My friend caught a 20.5" red. Around 10:30, I had the first good strike of the day and it resulted in a beautiful 39" red (lots of color). Both of the bulls were released for another day. We also caught some small pomps and some whiting. Around noon, the weed washed in and was pretty thick. We picked up and move to the north sticks. My friend caught a nice jack and spanish mac. We had to leave around 2:00 to head for home. 11-11-06
Went out this mourning and met that peski northern. the water didnt look bad, Butt the curent was real strong and the wind was unbelievable. no bait in the water didnt help either. left early with one line being cut off,and another guy out there got cut off like four times spanish macs?Three bull reds were landed that i saw.Maybe things picked up when i left? WATER WAS CLEAR TO slightly murky, no bait due to northen,No seaweed only that fine thin black grass to mess wit 11-15-06
ust my luck my day off another windy northen.With what looked like 40 mph winds, And not to many choices to fish . I picked the south jetty for the protected right side of the jetty,Just two men fishing when i got there, they had caught two sheep heads about mid point when i strolled by to the point.wind was super strong but the water on the right looked semi clear,The channel was chocolately brown with current going out. the last three times i went out,There was no finger mullet in the surf but today it was a buffet for the `pelicans and seaguls.They where having a blast.Fished with fresh cut mullet on big poles with three odds, With no luck. Saw spanish macs hitting schools of mullet so i rigged my small bait caster with 80lb mono shock leader on 15lb test and free lined live mullet.Then it started,Had some drag smoking runs from 2-ft macs. Dispite the harsh conditions,Me and two other guys i met out there had an awsome day catching macs. Left around five in the after noon with the bite still on. End results caught around nine huge macs with sevaral lost,there was a jack and one blue fish caught. The other two men went home with other catches of sheep heads. The two other guys i fished with got there share of spanish mackerals. Not bad for what looked like a stay home kind of day.  ''TERMINATOR''

Wally and I got a late start due to me just getting off from working all night. Tired or not I was going fishing with these perfect conditions. Well we hit the Beach about 10:30a.m. and drove to about the 17.5 mile mark and it seemed to have a nice gut so we stopped to check it out. We quickly began catching Pompanos and Spanish Macks. Heres Wally with a nice size one. Lots of pomps and smacks. I fished from 10 to 2 pm at BHP and caught 2 Sp macs and only saw a couple others landed, but nothing else at all. The water was crystal clear with little waves or current, plus the tide was way out. There was thousands of small watermelon shad and finger mullet near the pier, but nothing having brunch. Those whiting are great eating. Congrats! It was pretty dead for me also 2 whiting

I fished from 10 to 2 pm at BHP and caught 2 Sp macs and only saw a couple others landed, but nothing else at all. The water was crystal clear with little waves or current, plus the tide was way out. There was thousands of small watermelon shad and finger mullet near the pier, but nothing having brunch. Those whiting are great eating. Congrats! Pomps are farther south from todays reports. 11-17-06
Long day to find a fish that wanted to bite. Started out at SPJ---nothing from 0630-0800>>>packed it up and fished the beach from North of Fish Pass Jetties up to the jetties...Found one (no buddies) nice Pompano and packed it up again. Ran down and fished south of the pier almost to the sticks. At around 1300 found a nice little gut with a cut feeding incoming tide that had the nice whiting on the prowl. 24 total in 2 hours- had a few to 16"+, with most 12-14"...lots of good fish tacos in their future! 11-18-06
Saturday morning as the sun was rising, I hung into this group of mostly Pompano in the second gut on fresh dead shrimp. I really don't know if these are big fpr Pompano's but, they sure fought good. Was cvamped at the south stakes right where ya come onto the PINS. Later we caught our limit od Smacks too, most on live finger mullet. Caught one ray and one Bluefish also. Wind was down and the surf pretty calm. Sunday the wind was up, but, we were still catching Smacks. 11-21-06
Took some live shrimp to BHP mid morning Tues. because I thought the pomps might be hitting with the beautiful water and conditions. Unfortunately, noone was catching anything except some small whiting up close in the surf zone. I fed my shrimp to the little jacks and perch. As I was leaving I decided to throw my Mannolure some more in the first gut even though the water was pretty shallow. After about 5 mins of jigging it along the bottom-Wham-a rod stopper of a 25" red. Kept trying for another one, but that was it. 11-22-06
C.H., Matt Dillon and I tried for pomps at pinches at the 17 and 18 on PINS just after sunup, but only little bait stealers and debris were home. Drove on to about the 32 and stayed until 1. Pomps bit way out in the far gut, but as the wind and waves got up we got tired of being slapped in the face and retreated to casting just over the bar, where the whiting, etc. totally replaced the pomps. Everything, including bluefish and a smack, hit Fishn' Strip/peeled shrimp combos. Boxed 12 pomps, 13 whiting, 3 bluefish and that smack. Most of the pomps were quart Ziploc filet size, but 3 took gallon Ziplocs. 1 11-25-06
Fished at the 18 yesterday from about 13:30 till dark. Surf was rough but water was clear. Wind and weed picked up throughout the day. Current was RIPPING to the north. Managed some finger mullet and shad with the cast net about the 8 but never saw any more. Managed to run three shark lines (bluefish) with two pickups and a clean break. Smacks were thick with some monsters mixed in. Whiting were big and hungry. No pomps but didn't really target them. Also managed a small speck. Here's the pics. The flounder were gigged in Aransas Pass the night before. 12-14-06
Anglers did more fishing inshore, said Sharon Keehlisen of Woody's Sports Center. Limits of flounder were caught in the mornings off the J.P. Luby pier in Roberts Point Park. Sand trout and whiting were caught off Charlie's Pasture pier. Redfish limits were caught in the flats. Speckled trout was caught off the jetties in the afternoons and in the surf, black drum were caught. 12-16-06
Fished to the 25 this morning and had a heck of a time keeping bait out.Managed a few good whithing and that is it. I thought the weed was gone for the winter?????BUT IT WAS A GREAT DAY FOR DECEMBER!!! Fished at the end of pavement yesterday. Caught a couple whiting and 1 pompano. Weed got really bad. been fishing the just south of BHP with NO weed to be found. try up north maybe. 12-17-06
Fished South Packery today. Finally found some good small mullet in the surf. One thing really interesting. Was on three separate casts from my cast net, I caught three small reds. They were about 14". Water was clear, no weed and little current. Took a walk on the jetty to see if anything was going on and the response was "no fish". I decided to fish the surf. Total Catch: 2 good runs=no fish 15 Whiting 10"-15" 1 Pomp. 12-21-06
Sharon Keehlisen of Woody's Sports Center said anglers off the south jetty and most piers are reeling lots of big sheepshead in. Black drum are being caught near Ingleside. Pompano are being caught in the surf and redfish in the flats. Offshore, fishermen are bringing in wahoo and tuna. 12-28-06
Woody's Sports Center will be open half a day on New Year's. Boats didn't go offshore out of this dock last week, but inshore guides led anglers to redfish and sheepshead off the north and south jetties. Island Queen fishermen caught sheepshead, sand trout and redfish. In the bays, it was black drum, sheepshead and reds being caught, said Sandra Fudge. 12-29-06
From what I deciphor from the "weather forecast", it appears that the North wind is going to stick around for most of the week. This will help flatten the surf, but only time clears that dirty water... Dirty water is not as much an issue for Reds, Drums, or Shark, but can make it hard to find bait in the surf (i.e. whiting, pompano). Let's also hope that the dead grass leaves the beach too. It seems we will be getting a change in the wind direction on Friday, but it's not going to last long. Could be sprinkles, but who cares about that. I plan on fishing a Hangover-Monday. I'm hopeful, but could be skunked. Such is the allure of fishing PINS. I'll be sure to report how I do. Tight lines! 1-12-07
Floating seaweed earlier this week hampered fishing for long-casters. Light-tackle anglers caught redfish and plenty of pompano and whiting. Not many sharks or trout. Surf has been murky along the National Seashore. No report from the Packery jetty. At Bob Hall Pier this week, the water was murky too. A handful of anglers caught mostly whiting and a few reds. 1-18-07
Fishing in cold weather is not bad or terrible, depending on whose talking. Wind and cold have kept some boats from going offshore, but not all. Winter Texans are taking advantage of the barely cool (to them!) weather and are filling freezers with sheepshead. Charlie Lopez at Woody's Sports Center said catches this week coming through the dock were big sheepshead, speckled trout and sand trout. No offshore catches reported. 1-25-07 This is the first since I started writing the fishing report (two-and-a-half years) that all docks reported no boats going out to fish. Some anglers have fished the bays, piers and jetties, but the constant rain along with wind and cold has kept most indoors. John McNatt of Fisherman's Wharf reported that the Jetty Boat has gone to San Jose Island a few times, and anglers caught sheepshead, speckled trout and redfish. No offshore trips were taken. 1-21-07

Hit the beach about 7:30 this morning. Went down to the 25MM. Dirty water all the way down to there. Caught a couple of whiting on dead shrimp. Cut mullet and Fish-bites in several colors did not get any bites. Anyone have any luck out there this weekend? 2-1-07
Better weather part of the week sent anglers out on the water. Limits of red snapper in state water, limits of shark and kingfish offshore and limits of sheepshead inshore were reported. Piers and jetties are good places to rack up limits of sheepshead, Sandra Fudge at Woody's Sports Center reported. Flounder off the bulkheads, sand trout and a few speckled trout are being caught. The Island Queen has anglers pulling in sand trout, sheepshead, whiting and flounder. The Jetty Boat out of Fisherman's Wharf taking fishermen to San Jose Island has brought back limits of sheepshead, trout up to 30-inches, and slot and bull redfish. Offshore state water snapper trips produced limits. Specially priced Winter Texan Monday 9-hour trips are returning with limits of kingfish and shark. 2-2-07

This past week brought sun, warmer weather and clearer water, which added up to, better catches for most. Waters cleared leading up to more speckled trout being caught on the south jetty using green worms, said Sharon Keehlisen of Woody's Sports Center. Live and dead shrimp are drawing limits of sheepshead on both jetties. Pompano is being caught in the surf and whiting off piers. Offshore kingfish, shark, wahoo and amberjack are being caught. 2-10-07
Gulf beachfront - A few redfish were caught this week along northern portions of the National Seashore. Fishing on the Ancel Brundrett pier on Station Street and the south jetty has produced catches of gafftop. Island Queen fishermen are catching sheepshead, pompano and whiting. 2-17-07

It was a beautiful day to be out but the fishing was not what I hoped for. 2-22-07 Mild winter weather has led to lots of catching in the Coastal Bend. Lots of big trout has been caught. John McNatt at Fisherman's Wharf said the Wharf Cat brought in 94 kings on one trip. Vermilion snapper, shark, kingfish and tuna were caught. Anglers using the Jetty Boat are racking up big trout and redfish. The Tuesday state water red snapper trip came in two hours early because all limits were caught along with redfish, black drum and Spanish mackerel said Jerry Montalbo out of 2-22-07
Driving has been very nice, just like a highway on low tide, but high tides are bad due to the extreme tides & waves we are having. Some areas located in the teens will put you at the base of the dunes. The closer to Mansfield you get, the more 4x4 is needed. Fishing has been slow!!! Have heard a few reports. Whiting, rays, occasional pomps and very few reds. But the temps are climbing and the sun is peeking out. I might be on the beach that week, vacation time comming up and wanted to beat the crowds to the island. 2-24-07
