Stratford Cup X

Stratford Cup X was held March 12-14, 2009 and featured some of the top high school soccer teams.  The Stratford Cup is an invitation only tournament that has featured nationally ranked teams, State Champions, Runners-up and perennial top-eight teams from Wisconsin, New York, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Alabama.  Facilities for the tournament are arguably the best in the state, featuring a 115 x 75 Bermuda grass lighted game pitch, full-sized Bermuda practice pitch, and full locker rooms at the field: The Spencer Frank Hays Soccer Field. 



Teams, Results, and Standings
Teams for the 2009 tournament were:  Stratford Academy, 2006 regionally ranked, 2005 nationally ranked 15th by Adidas/ NSCAA national poll, 5-time Cup champions and holders of eleven consecutive GISA AAA state crowns; Westminster Schools of Augusta (GA): 2006 GISA AAA Runners-up,  2004, 2005, and 2007 GISA AAA State Semi-finalist; Tattnall Square Academy (GA); Deerfield Windsor School (GA), 2005 GISA AAA Runners-up; Mount de Sales (GA): Six time region champions, 2008 GISA AAA State Champion; and First Presbyterian Day School (GA): 2007, 2008 Region Champions, 2007 GISA AAA State Champion.

Format and Rules

  1. All matches will be played with 40 minute halves with a 10 minute half-time period (exception: teams playing twice on Saturday may opt for 35 minute halves. Must be approved by both coaches of participating teams and Coach James Jordan before the tournament.).



  2. The points-winner for the weekend will be declared the tournament champion and will receive a championship trophy. Ties will be decided by:

    1. Head to head result.


    2. Result against common opponent.
    3. Goal differential (up to maximum three per game) in two games.
    4. Fewest goals allowed.
    5. Co-champions will be declared.

  3. After 80 minutes, all matches are final. No overtime will be played.

  4. A tournament MVP will be voted on by the respective coaches.




  1. Team listed first will wear home uniforms (white shirt and socks).



  2. All game balls will be provided.



  3. Water will be provided at every bench throughout the tournament.



  4. A player/coach who is ejected from a match, in coordination with NFHS rules, must sit out the following game.



  5. All games will be played on Stratford Academy’s game field.



  6. Stratford Academy practice (lower) field will be available for pre-game warm-ups.



Point System

  • Win = three points

  • Tie = one point

  • One point goal differential (up to three points)

  • Shutout = one point

Directions


From North of Macon traveling on Interstate 75:
Go southbound on I-75. At the junction of I-75 and I-475, take the I-475 by-pass south. Exit at Zebulon Rd. Turn left off the exit ramp. Go about 650 yards and turn right on Peake Rd. Follow Peake Rd. about 1.2 miles. Stratford Academy will be on the right.

From South of Macon traveling on Interstate 75:
Go northbound on I-75. At the junction of I-75 and I-475, take the I-475 by-pass north. Exit at Zebulon Rd. Turn right off the exit ramp. Go about 300 yards and turn right onto Peake Rd. Follow Peake Rd. about 1.2 miles. Stratford Academy will be on the right.

From the East traveling on Interstate 16:
Take 1-16 west toward Macon. Take I-75 north toward Atlanta at the junction of I-16 and I-75. Exit off I-75 at the Bass Rd. exit. Go left onto Bass Rd. Take Bass Rd. about 3.8 miles to Zebulon Rd. Turn right on Zebulon Rd. Go about 1.1 miles to Peake Rd. Turn left onto Peake Rd. Follow Peake Rd about 1.2 miles. Stratford Academy will be on the right.

From West and North of Macon traveling on Interstate 20 & 75:
Take I-20 east to Atlanta to I-285 east (Atlanta bypass) to I-675 south to I-75 south.  At the junction of I-75 and I-475, take the I-475 by-pass south.  Exit at Zebulon Rd.  Turn left off the exit ramp.  Go about 650 yards and turn right on Peake Rd.  Follow Peake Rd. about 1.2 miles.  Stratford Academy will be on the right.
