The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra Presents Concert Benefiting Family Promise of Forsyth County, Inc.

ALPHARETTA, GA, MARCH 18, 2017 - The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra (AlphaSO) is proud to present “Sounds of a Mediterranean Spring,” a concert benefiting Family Promise of Forsyth County, Inc. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Alpharetta at 7:00PM. A pre-concert reception will be held beginning at 5:45PM and will include heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by chef Mike Parks from The Manor Golf and Country Club. Tickets are $18-$40 and are available at www.FPForsyth.org.
The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is led by Dr. Steven Eric Hawk. Dr. Hawk, a conductor, composer, and violist, holds a doctorate in orchestral conducting from the University of Georgia. In addition to AlphaSO, Dr. Hawk serves as the Music Director of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra Philharmonia and is a teacher at the Fulton Science Academy in Alpharetta where he instructs K-12 students in orchestra and general music. Dr. Hawk shared that “the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is proud to bring our city a concert filled with timeless masterworks and local guest artists to support Family Promise of Forsyth County. We aim to help them in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of homeless and at-risk families.”
Music selections for the evening include Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana Intermezzo, Vivaldi's Concerto for Three Guitars, Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto No. 2, Debussy's Petite Suite, and a world premiere by local composer Brian Shon.  The program, directed by Dr. Eric Hawk, features The Atlanta Guitar Trio and pianist Dr. Dawn Dalangin Hawk.
Pianist Dr. Dawn Dalangin Hawk is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, a soloist, collaborator, and educator. With her husband Dr. Eric Hawk, she co-founded the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra in 2014 where she serves as pianist and Secretary of the Board. Dr. Dawn Hawk holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Georgia. She is a private piano instructor in the north Atlanta area.
The world premiere of “Nightingale’s Anthem,” written by Brian Shon, will be performed at the concert. Brian is 14 years of age and an orchestra student at local Webb Bridge Middle School. He enjoys composing and arranging pieces for any musical arrangement, and has received an award from the Music Teachers National Association, as well as winning the All-State Composition Competition and the National PTA Reflections Program. The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is proud to present his premiere of “Nightingale’s Anthem.”
The Atlanta Guitar Trio will be featured in Vivaldi’s Concerto for Three Guitars. The group is comprised of Scott Plato, Adam Craighead, and Bill Hearn. Together they have decades of guitar performance and educator experience, and provide audiences with exciting, fun, and entertainingly musical concert programs.
All event proceeds beyond concert expenses will go to support the mission of Family Promise of Forsyth County, Inc.

Family Promise of Forsyth County, Inc. is part of a national organization that fights homelessness by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of volunteers. Through their network of host & support congregations, Family Promise provides food, housing, and support services for homeless families in Forsyth County. They also provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent their becoming homeless. About The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra (AlphaSO)
The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) community ensemble based in Alpharetta, Georgia. The AlphaSO was co-founded in 2014 by Dr. S. Eric Hawk and his wife Dr. Dawn Dalangin Hawk.
Membership in AlphaSO is open to all instrumentalists with high school level playing ability or higher. Anyone seeking to develop their musical skills in a fun and professional environment is encouraged to join at any time throughout the year.

 

The AlphaSO’s goal is to serve the artistic needs of Alpharetta and the greater North Atlanta area.
