1

For my first graphic I set out to make a professional and clean cut game cover which I would be proud of and would entice people to pick up the game in a store. The graphic is fit for the purpose I set it for as it does everything a game cover is intended to do, the game cover was meant to appeal to the public, give them information about the game and also show some in game footage of the game. This graphic definitely capable of fulfilling all of these criteria’s for example the back cover has images of in game footage which shows players what the graphics and cars will be like in game which is a good thing as players use game covers to get a feel for what a game the game is by looking at images. The game cover has out shone my original intentions by a large amount due to the professional look of the cover as I set out to make a basic game cover with information but I came out with a very appealing game cover. The graphics file size was quite large due to the amount of individual graphics within the image although the size of the image does affect the final outcome as the image is being printed and so the file size doesn’t matter. The images size of the graphic is set to the official dimensions for a Xbox 360 game cover (1280, 860) which suits the purpose of the game cover. The overall quality of the graphic is very high and is set to the highest standard possible in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and it is using a resolution of 600 pixels per inch which is the ideal setting for my image. Overall this graphic was built to the highest standards that I myself am capable of at this time although if I had more time I would spend more time learning Photoshop so to add to the cover, the finished images came together well as was able to use my skills and understanding of Photoshop to bring the different parts together for example in terms of the layout of my game cover I used gridlines to help me align the content.

2

My second graphic is my Logo which is one of the most important parts of a games graphics as it is what will make it stand out from the rest and stay in people’s minds. With my logo I looked for originality overall as my main goal as I believe having a logo which stands out allows you to grow a fan base a lot quicker because when people see the logo it will remind them of the game, I also set out to make a logo which was clean and cut with a high quality finish and also was professional looking. I think I met these goals with my finished graphic as I have done everything I wanted for example the logo is original and the finish is to a very high quality, the graphic is also to do with racing which can help people remember it for example it has racing flags as well as traditional Racing text. I think the logo does fit its purpose as it stands out and it has the ability to represent the game on a professional level, the logo also suits the game which it was made for as this is a big factor when making a logo. In terms of aesthetics the graphic has a very low files size which is needed for a games logo as it will be posted on the internet and so it must be high quality with low file size, The size of the image is 800 by 800 but this can be changed in order to suit many different needs such as the internet or in the game. The quality of the image is to a high degree as the resolution is 600 pixels per inch which is high for an image and it means the image does not look pixelated which is important for representing the game. Overall I feel this graphic has fulfilled its purpose completely as it does everything it is needed for example I am able to use it in my other graphics due to its high quality and low file size also the logo is able to be posted on things such as forums without causing people with bad internet to wait long periods of time to download it

3

The third graphic I made for All Out Racing was the Main menu which is a very important graphic because it is the first thing the players will see when playing the game and so it need to show them the game and what it is about using images as well as provide players with the right links to the different parts of the game e.g. Garage, Career. When making my main menu I wanted to make an appealing layout which would stand out to the players which I intended to do using images and effects which are capable in Adobe Photoshop, I also needed to make sure that the links in the main menu were easily seen by the player and stood out. I feel I have met these goals of mine in this graphic, in order to make the graphic’s layout appealing I used images from in game gameplay as the background in order to entice players to play also I used the games logo on top of the image to increase the quality if the main menu. In order to make the different links stand out to the player is used the features of Adobe Photoshop to add an outline to the different links which allow it to stand out from the background. The main menu is fit for it purpose as it provides players with everything they need from a main menu of a game e.g. it needs to be appealing to the players, have clear cut links to the different parts of the game and show them gameplay of the game, I feel I have fulfilled all of these areas. The graphics file size is quite large but this does not matter as much due to the main menu not being put on the web due to it being an in game graphic, the graphic is very high quality also because it has been made with the highest resolution possible for this image, the size of the image is 1280 by 920 but it is able to be scaled and not lose a lot of quality which is needed for an in game graphic as not every player has the same screen size.

4

The 4th graphic I made is a lap time board which is to be used in my HUD which is an in game graphic that is used to inform players about what lap time they have been getting and also how close the other player’s lap times are to their one, this is a needed feature of a racing game and this graphic is very important. The original intentions with my lap time board was to make a simple graphic which displayed text displaying lap times, although when making my concept art I realised that there was better ideas than just a basic leader board and so I decided to change my intentions and instead I went with a design which was more suited to a race game as the lap time board was based around a wheel and so I feel I met my original intentions. In terms of fulfilling its purpose I feel my lap time board does this as the purpose for the lap time is to provide players with lap times which it does and also goes further than its purpose as I made it look a lot more appealing using effects and features available in Adobe Photoshop. If I had more time I would have added a lot more features and made it more appealing to the player. The graphics file size is not very large due to the size of the image as it is 200 by 150 although the file size does not matter as much due to it being a in game graphic, although the graphic is to a very high quality which is very important as it is in game and players will not want to play a bad quality game, the resolution of the images is 600 pixels per inch.

5

The speedometer/tacometer graphic which is the fifth graphic I made is a very important graphic and is one of the main components of a racing game HUD as without players would have a lack of information in the races. The speedometer is a very basic but important graphic as the time needed to make it is not that long but its job is very important for example players rely on this in game in order to make decisions about their speed and their position on the race track for example if a player see he is going very fast on the speedometer and he’s approaching a corner he may start to slow down but if he has no information he won’t realise that he has to break, although small these graphics have very important roles in games. The image is fit for its purpose as it is able to provide players with the Speed, top speed and revs they are currently doing in the race which is the necessary information a player needs when playing a racing game among other things. The file size for this graphic is not very big due its dimensions which are 400 by 250 although they are easily scaled and lose very little quality which is one of the properties that in game graphics must have due to different sizes of screens player’s use. Overall I feel this graphic is perfect for what it is required to do as it is easy to read and understand which is needed and also has all the necessary information needed for a racing game.
