My sixth graphic is perhaps the most important in game graphic as it what makes the games in game experience original and unique, the HUD is the most important in game graphic as it includes everything players need in terms of information from things such as race position to where they are on the overall map of the race. The HUD’s purpose is to supply information to a player In your game in numbers of different of ways from a speedometer to a map of the race, the graphics within this HUD must also not put of the player in any way for example if by looking at the lap time board they lose concentration then this is a bad HUD, the HUD must also be graphically appealing to the player as the in game screen needs to look good for players to play your game. I think my HUD fits this purpose to a pretty high degree as it does all the things a HUD needs to do for example my graphic consists of 4 graphics in total as well as the gameplay which are map of track, lap time board, speedometer/tacometer and position/lap number. While making my HUD I realised that I needed extra information as the current information wouldn’t have been enough for some players, I then made a race map for the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

My production skills throughout the process where not to the highest standard at first but I improved my skills throughout the process of making the graphics. In terms of idea generation I at first did not come up with the most technical ideas or unique which was a problem because my graphics were looking very below par which in my eyes was a problem as I wanted to create original graphics. My idea generation started to improve when I started to sketch my ideas down on paper as I was able to think about what ways to improve it for example for my game cover’s original design was very basic and the design behind it was very simplistic and so sketched out a more technical design and it turned out very well and I decided to use it instead. Using this technique of sketching multiple ideas down I was able to create multiple ideas that could be used for example when creating my lap time board I sketched out a number of ideas and then got my friends to pick their favourite one and asked them why this helped me get the best design possible for my lap time boards.

My time management throughout the process was done to a basic standard as it was very difficult as some graphics were very basic but took a very long time to draw for example when designing my HUD graphic I made a track map which is a very basic design although it took a very long time due to the amount of shapes needed for it. I allocated my time quite well when creating the graphics which was very useful as it meant that I could give the right amount of time to some of the graphics for example I allocated between four to five hours to my game cover as I realised that it was very technical and it needed to look very professional and appealing. I think that allocating my time based on the technicality of the graphics was very useful as I was able to create the graphics to the standard I wanted to achieve with my sketches. I also wasted a lot of time at the start of the designing process as my idea generation was not very good which meant I wasted time making under par designs which meant I didn’t have as much time as I had wanted to make graphics and sketches.

If I had more time to work with I would spent a much longer time on my sketches in order to make sure I got the best designs I could think off which is very important when making graphics. I would also have liked to have spent a large amount of time on researching the gaming industry and the certain trends that racing games follow as this would allow me to make my graphics suited fully to the genre in which my game is made for although I did do some research before making my designs I feel that by doing more I could improve my designs even more.

Overall my digital graphic turned out to be what I had planned to make and had some improvements also such as the game which exceeded my expectations due to its overall professional look and clean cut design.

It fits in well to the game as it has cars all over it and it works well as there is a good combination of images and text on it so you get plenty of information out of it.

Could the image be improved?

(better drawn, use of colour, size, balance, proportion etc.)

There isn’t much wrong with it.

It looks good as it shows everything the player needs to know when they are playing the game well and doesn’t clutter up the screen too much.

Maybe make the leaderboard at the top a bit smaller as it is too noticeable and could distract the player too much from the game.

It fits in well as it tells you what you need to know about the times and has a wheel which makes it fit into the game well.

Maybe add in a piece that tells you what car they were driving or what spec the cars are.

Maybe put the flags in behind the rest so they are background.

It has good icons for each mode and also the background fits in well to the game.

Could the image be improved?

Maybe have the top piece non-transparent as it can be hard to see in some spots.

It tells the player the stuff they need to know during gameplay so it fits in well.
