Prophecy: Isaiah 28:16. Trust in the stone in Zion. Fulfilled: 1 Peter 2:4. Paul, an apostle to Gentiles and Jews, referenced Messianic prophecy. In his testimony at a synagogue, Paul used Old Testament Scripture to convince not only some Jews, but also a large number of “God-fearing Greeks or proselytes to Judaism, that Jesus is the Christ. Acts 17:2,3 As his custom was, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, [3] explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Christ he said. [4] Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women. Matthew, more than the other three Gospel writers, referenced Messianic prophecy. If the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) is considered a unit, and each of the other chapters in Matthew are considered a unit, then every unit in the Gospel of Matthew in someway proclaims Jesus to be the Messiah.
