All of our teams competed very well and most importantly all enjoyed themselves thoroughly. But a special mention must go to one of our teams comprised of Adam L, Bailey S, Zachary F, Tamika P and Ashleigh W who placed second in the 7/8 competition and took home a silver medal.

I don’t want to claim credit for this result but on the bus travelling to Balmoral I did deliver an inspirational speech, telling the students the same thing Pythagoras used to tell his triangles, “You will be all right”……

The 2017 interschool chess season concluded with a final round of competition at Anglican Church Grammar School on Tuesday 8^th August. Both teams from Capalaba continued to improve on their form from previous rounds, achieving top-8 finishes in their respective divisions. Our A-graders finished the season in 7^th place, while our under-strength B-graders (playing one member short of a full team) still managed a very impressive 6^th place.

Out of 92 teams that competed this season, Capalaba’s A-Graders finished 15^th overall, placing us in the top 16% of scholastic teams in Brisbane. After State High and Indooroopilly, Capalaba ranks as the third-best performing state school.

Michael M (A-grade) and Dominic S (B-grade) were both awarded merit ribbons for strong performances in their respective competitions. James L finished off his competitive year with a brilliant round, scoring 6 wins and a draw from his 7 games. This strong finish to the season saw James named as the 2017 High Schools B-grade champion.
