Refurbishment of durable habitats for some of the most threatened amphibian species in the Madrid Community. Executing ponds and refuge areas through the creation of water networks (micro-reserves) at a distance from each other that will allow the different species to naturally move around within them. Creation of information posters with the different amphibian species found in the Autonomous Region of Madrid. Riverbed: clean-up, removal of timber and litter. Consolidation of dam at the refuge entrance. Perimeter fence: We will work on enhancing the importance of stone walls as a way to model the landscape, create wildlife refuges and provide diversity through the hedgerows that grow next to them. Dining area: Removal of litter from the old hut situated at the back of the dining hall, reusing the material to redress the erosion produced by the stream next to the building. Vegetable garden area: Performance of maintenance tasks and building a handrail in the vegetable garden area to facilitate the botanic route around the farm. Maintenance of the botanic garden. Theatre with bioclimatic architecture: Maintenance of wooden beams by treating them with linseed oil in the pergola. Improving access by laying stone slabs on the existing gravel. A way to disconnect from routine, and open up to new experiences. It involves active and joint participation in social wellbeing for the community where the camp is developed. A further purpose is to have fun by taking part in activities that are not part of one´s routine; this is an alternative to traditional holidays. It is a life experience with a group of people. The aim is to leave individualism behind, experiencing the values that living in a group offers. Acquisition of social values (tolerance, solidarity, etc.) It is a group of participants willing to live together, work together and enjoy together, adapting to the group. It is a meeting place for people with different backgrounds, with an exchange of culture and customs. It is a place where everything is done as a group. SPECIFIC GOALS: Mornings from Monday to Friday will be spent on tasks inherent to farm work under a technical director who will direct the tasks. Afternoons and weekends will be devoted to complementary leisure and free-time activities that will include excursions. A team of two guides (an English speaker and a French speaker) will be available, plus a free-time coordinator. A workcamp is a place where a group of young people from different backgrounds engage to voluntarily and disinterestedly work on a project involving social work and complementary activities for a specified period of time. Undertaking the project means fostering the values of social coexistence, tolerance, solidarity, participation, intercultural learning, etc.
Working free of charge for the planned project hours for five days a week. Assisting in the development of entertainment activities planning, and taking part in these activities. Contributing to the overall organisation of the camp and the tasks that the camp involves. Respecting the different ideological beliefs and personal differences of all camp participants. Timber maintenance along the Los Oficios trail. Cleaning and rehabilitation of the irrigation channels and clearing of the Los Oficios Trail. Refurbishment of the bird watching area. Clearing out litterfall and grass from the lime kiln. Reviewing the plant protectors and cleaning out the tree surrounds. AT ALL THE SPACES MANAGED BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTRE Maintenance and replacement of nesting boxes. Knowledge of cavity-nesting birds and their function in the ecosystem.
Maintenance tasks in the traditional vegetable garden and nursery. Cleaning of tree surrounds. Repair and replacement of wooden enclosure. Fruit collection. Clean-up of farming terraces. Paving of the edibles balcony with traditional cobbling made from rocks, sand and pebbles, using the traditional techniques and methods of the Lozoya Valley consistent with the one located in the nearby Monastery of El Paular.
