Saturday Night’s Main Event #5: “Boxing Bob” (3/1/1986, Phoenix, AZ)
BOXING MATCH: MISTER T vs. BATTLING BOB ORTON Cowboy Bob underwent a temporary gimmick overhaul so they could set up the Piper/T boxing match at WrestleMania 2. Orton cheats wildly but still gets KO’ed in Round 2, then helps Roddy double-team T.

STEVE GATORWOLF vs. KING KONG BUNDY Bundy flattens Steve after yelling “I want Hogan!” throughout the pre-match interview. This is called “foreshadowing”…

WORLD TITLE MATCH: HULK HOGAN vs. MAGNIFICENT MURACO Mr. Fuji has the Asian Flu, so Bobby Heenan stands in for him. He interferes to get Muraco DQ’ed, then Bundy runs in, Hogan gets triple-teamed, and he’s knocked unconscious for the first time in his career, so sayeth Vince. Hogan is stretchered out and taken from the arena in an ambulance, and Vince spends the rest of the show speaking of Hulk as if he died.

TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: GREG “The Hammer” VALENTINE & BRUTUS BEEFCAKE vs. BRITISH BULLDOGS Valentine gets the pin on a really dumb finish, and the WrestleMania 2 rematch is set.

HULK HOGAN’S “REAL AMERICAN” music video. I’ll wager that Vince got the idea for Dude Love’s entrance video from pulling this out of the vault.

JUNKYARD DOG vs. “Adorable” ADRIAN ADONIS Jimmy Hart takes wilder bumps than either of the wrestlers.

MEAN GENE OKERLUND gets a preliminary medical report on Hogan’s condition from outside the hospital.

ONE AND A HALF HOURS

Saturday Night’s Main Event #6: “Them Nasty Funks” (5/3/1986, Providence, RI)
HULK HOGAN & JUNKYARD DOG vs. TERRY & HOSS FUNK Hogan and JYD bring The Haiti Kid, of all people, to offset Jimmy Jack Funk and Jimmy Hart. Haiti gets the crap kicked out of him, of course, but Hulk and JYD win the match.

OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN for the “Battle of the Big Boys,” from the people who brought you “Midget Madness” and “Tag Team Turmoil.”

UNCLE ELMER vs. KING KONG BUNDY Elmer’s last WWF match.

Mr. Wonderful” PAUL ORNDORFF vs. “Adorable” ADRIAN ADONIS A short time later, Orndorff would turn heel and these two would make life tough for Hulk Hogan. Adonis does a bizarre but funny pre-match interview, singing “Hey Hey Paula, I wanna wrestle you.”

GENE OKERLUND INTERVIEWS HULK HOGAN re: WrestleMania 2 cage match.

RICKY “The Dragon” STEAMBOAT vs. JAKE “The Snake” ROBERTS Match never starts, as Jake attacks Ricky before the bell, gives him a nasty DDT outside of the ring, and tries to cram Damien into Ricky’s mouth. Good angle!

TAG TEAM TITLES, BEST OF 3 FALLS: BRITISH BULLDOGS vs. NIKOLAI VOLKOFF & IRON SHEIK Dynamite Kid is legit injured, and doesn’t get involved at all until the third fall. I always thought it was odd how the Bulldogs’ downfall seemed to be marked by winning the titles.

ONE AND A HALF HOURS
Saturday Night’s Main Event #7: “A Wonderful Challenger” (10/4/86, Richfield, OH)

WORLD TITLE: HULK HOGAN vs. “Mister Wonderful” PAUL ORNDORFF Bobby Heenan gets caught interfering for Orndorff and gets dragged off by police. Adrian Adonis runs in and attacks Hogan, and it’s 2-on-1 until Rowdy Roddy Piper makes the save. Hogan & Piper have a staredown, and Piper simply walks away.

SNAKEPIT MATCH: RICKY “The Dragon” STEAMBOAT vs. JAKE “The Snake” ROBERTS

PEDRO MORALES vs. IRON SHEIK Morales is filling in for Roddy Piper, who hasn’t been cleared to wrestle tonight. Piper storms into the ring and chases away Morales with his crutches, leading to…

Rowdy” RODDY PIPER vs. IRON SHEIK Piper wins easily.

TAG TEAM TITLE, BEST OF 3 FALLS: BRITISH BULLDOGS vs. DREAM TEAM

KAMALA vs. “Leaping” LANNY POFFO

BONUS! A REPORT ON A WWF HOUSE SHOW from a Sacramento TV station, late 1986.

ONE AND A HALF HOURS

Saturday Night’s Main Event #8: “A Herculean Challenge” (11/29/1986, Los Angeles, CA)

It should be noted that the LA Sports Arena must have had a serious asbestos problem in the locker rooms when this episode was taped, because this features hands-down some of the most spaced out promos ever on a wrestling broadcast.

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE: RANDY “Macho Man” SAVAGE vs. JAKE “The Snake” ROBERTS Jake lets fly with the first weird promo of the night, saying “Few people shake my hand, but few people shake it the second time.”

SLICK & BOBBY HEENAN go to a local bank to finalize their latest business deal, and Bobby becomes Hercules Hernandez’s third manager in one year.

WORLD TITLE: HULK HOGAN vs. HERCULES HERNANDEZ Hulk gives the most bizarre promo of his life before the match, and before you argue with me, let me say: No, you’re wrong. THIS is the one. Absolutely baffling stuff here.

MUSIC VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS of Roddy Piper’s friendship with Bob Orton.

Rowdy” RODDY PIPER vs. “Cowboy” BOB ORTON Orton says he was never really Piper’s friend, and Piper responds with a funny promo about how much trouble he once went to trying to buy a prostitute for Orton! (I’m surprised Vince okayed that.)

KILLER BEES vs. HART FOUNDATION The Bees use mask-switching to win the match. A pre-taped interview is shown during the match where the masked Bees have an argument with Mean Gene about which one of them is Brian.

KOKO B. WARE vs. NIKOLAI VOLKOFF

DICK “The Rebel” SLATER vs. MAGNIFICENT MURACO Mr. Fuji sings “Dixie” before the match.

ONE AND A HALF HOURS
Saturday Night’s Main Event #9: “A Wonderful Champion?” (1/3/1987, Hartford, CT)

WORLD TITLE STEEL CAGE MATCH: HULK HOGAN vs. “Mister Wonderful” PAUL ORNDORFF Hogan & Orndorff both go out of the cage at the same time, and referee Danny Davis declares the match a tie. Hogan beats up Davis, and then, of course, he wins the match. Also, as a sidenote, I don’t think Vince realized what time this show was airing. This is as nonviolent as cage matches can be.

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE: RANDY “Macho Man” SAVAGE vs. GEORGE “The Animal” STEELE Ricky Steamboat makes his surprise return, distracting Savage while Steele “kidnaps” Elizabeth.

JUNKYARD DOG vs. KING HARLEY RACE Harley and Bobby Heenan double-team JYD, but referee Danny Davis takes his sweet time calling for the bell.

ROWDY RODDY PIPER vs. ADORABLE ADRIAN ADONIS The gay elements of the “Adorable” gimmick are being phased out here. Piper dominates until he gets his eyes sprayed with perfume.

BATTLE FOR TEXAS: BLACKJACK MULLIGAN vs. JIMMY JACK FUNK
