8. Conclusions


This HIA was intended to provide an impartial assessment of the health impacts of the redevelopment, based on currently available information. It was also hoped that this HIA would (1) increase awareness among regional decision-makers and stakeholders regarding the many factors that impact health and (2) encourage local and regional discussion surrounding how to define and plan for a healthy community.
We do not expect the Turner Field redevelopment to be a panacea for the neighborhoods proximate to NPU-V. However, the redevelopment can help promote the health of these residents in a wide variety of ways. Given anticipated health pathways from peer-reviewed literature and community feedback in this HIA, we advise decision makers to include a comprehensive HIA in future redevelopment proposals, including setting aside the necessary funding for its appropriate performance. That HIA should seek ongoing participation among community members, allowing them the opportunity to vocalize their health concerns and the developer(s) an opportunity to meet those concerns.

Appendix C. Community Survey of the Health Impact of Turner Field Redevelopment


The Atlanta Braves have announced they will be leaving Turner Field in the near future. The land that is currently occupied by Turner Field and parking lots will be redeveloped, according to the City.* We** are assessing the health impact of the proposal by Carter Company and Georgia State University to redevelop Turner Field. We are interested in understanding the concerns of residents who live near Turner Field on the redevelopment, so we are conducting a survey. To get your perspective on how the redevelopment may affect your neighborhood, we ask residents of NPU-V and neighborhoods near Turner Field to participate in this survey. All individual answers will be kept private. No personal information will be collected in this survey. The results will be summarized and included in the assessment report. The results of our assessment will be shared with the NPU-V and neighborhood association leadership.
