KING Miss. Nicole Celena King, age 23, of 10909 Glade Valley Road, Ennice, NC, died Sunday, November 3rd., at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC. She is survived by her mother, Donna Rutherford King of the home; a sister, Crystal King of Raleigh, NC; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Lucille Rutherford of Ennice; paternal grandparents, Dan and Shirley Thomason of Galax, VA; paternal great-grandmother, Ether King, Pulaski, Va; and several cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the New Covenant Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m., Wednesday, at the church. The family ask that food be taken to the church. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials can be made to the National Kidney Foundation of NC, 9708 White Clay Court, Raleigh, NC 27617. Grandview Memorial Funeral Home of Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

KING, Doris Pauline Williams, 85, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of
Ivanhoe, Va., died Monday, January 8, 2001, in the Southern Hill Medical
Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of
the late Mellie Hicks and Laura Myrtle Miller Williams and was a member of
the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aide Society United
Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Howard
King and a daughter-in-law, Lena Mae King. She is survived by three sons and
daughters-in-law, Howard King, Jr. of Galax, Va., Randall and Violet King of
Mocksville, N.C., Forest "Bo" and Barbara King of Wytheville, Va.; seven
daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Griggs Hampton of Woodlawn, Va., Linda
and Ron Morrison of Summerville, Ga., Pat and Jim Puckett of Murfreesboro,
Tenn., Elaine and Bill Widner, Jean and Dewell Lineberry, Treasa and Kenneth
Reynolds, all of Galax, Va., Cheryl and Bobby Vaughan of Smyrna, Tenn.;
three sisters, Cecil Hartley of Waynesboro, Va., Ethel Taylor of Ivanhoe,
Va., Shirley Baston of Lexington, S.C.; two brothers, M. M. Williams of Max
Meadows, Va., Bob Williams of Columbia, S.C.; thirteen grandchildren and
thirteen great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held
Thursday, January 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Hope United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Rance Edwards and the Rev. Larry Linkous officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope United Methodist Cemetery. The body
will be taken to the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church where the family will
receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Barnett Funeral Home in
Wytheville, Virginia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Kinnaman Sr., 91 of Sunbury, died early Tuesday morning (March 16, 1999) at Grady Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Aug. 26, 1907 in Pulaski, Virginia to the late Frank and Emma (McGuire) Kinnaman. He moved to the Sunbury area 32 years ago from Columbus. A farmer, he retired in 1972 after working 29 years as a line crew supervisor for Columbus & Southern Electric. Member Columbus Baptist Temple.

Survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Frank E. and Opal Kinnaman of Westerville, Donald E. and Letha Kinnaman of Columbus, Edward and Geri Kinnaman Jr. of Marengo and Thomas Kinnaman of Delaware; three daughters and two sons-in-law Helen Zeise of Columbus, Joyce Ann and Harold Barbour of Baltimore, Ohio and Shirley and Bill Hobbs of Sunbury; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by wife Vivian Jones Kinnaman in 1981; son Herbert in 1996; grandson Douglas; brothers Roy and Harry, and sisters Almeta Nagel and Della Farmer.



Services were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury with the Rev. C.L. Fuqua officiating. Interment at Berkshire Cemetery.

Alice Godby was born in Pulaski County, Virginia, June 18, 1856, died at her home near Durham, March 30, 1932 after an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Kinzer moved with her husband and family to Oklahoma in 1905 having lived here 27 years.
Her husband preceded her in death 9 years ago, her eldest son, Crockett died at the age of 26 years, one daughter Mrs. May Davis died in 1917, another daughter, Mrs. Nellie Fenno died in 1923. She leaves to mourn her going, nine children, Mrs. Kate Whitt and James Kinzer of Virginia, R.E. and William G. Kinzer and Mrs. Rebecca Isbel of Pampa, Texas, Mrs. Virginia Nies of Perryton, Texas, Mrs. Dicie Lewis, E.R. Kinzer and Miss Vivian Kinzer of Durham, three brothers E.P. Godbey, Charles Godbey and George Godbey of Virginia and one sister, Mrs. Laura Beaners, also of Virginia. She leaves 32 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Mrs. Kinzer or more familiarly known as "Aunt Alice" confessed her Lord at the age of 16 years having spent 60 years of her life for her Master. She was a loving mother and a kind and good neighbor. She realized she could not get well, and told her family so. She requested the sons "The old rugged cross" and "Face to face" to be sung as a quartette by Mr. and Mrs. Guy Gabbart and Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Mangold.
This good woman will not only be missed by her loved relatives but by all who knew her and in her passing on the writer will lose one of her dearest friends and neighbors.
Burial Fairview Cemetery, Durham, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.

Herman Edward KIRCHNER, 82, of Medallion Drive, Pulaski, died Monday in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Born in Spencer, W.Va., Dec. 14, 1898, he was the son of the late Herman E. KIRCHNER and Lillie SIMMONS KIRCHNER. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski; Kiwanis Club; BPOE Lodge No. 1067, Pulaski; American Legion; a lifetime member of the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce, and board member of the American Red Cross.
Surviving are his wife, Cecile DIX KIRCHNER; six sisters, Mrs. Julia REXROAD, Tioga, W.Va., Mrs. Evelyn HIMLER, Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Irene CRISLIP, Elizabeth, W.Va., Mrs. Madelyn BOSEMAN, Suitland, Md., and Mrs. Corrinne JOHNSON, and Mrs. Joan SHORES, both of Rockville, Md., and three brothers, George W. KIRCHNER and Peter KIRCHNER, both of Pulaski, and Robert KIRCHNER, Three Rivers, Mich.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. J.N. Howard and the Rev. Tom Seay officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski.
Visiting will be today at Stevens Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials to the First United Methodist Church Chapel Fund or the New River Valley Rescue Squad.

KIRK, Gerald, (Jerry), of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2000.
He was born on July 6, 1942 in Christiansburg where he grew up and attended
high school. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Salem. His
professional life at Blue Cross and Blue Shield and Jerry Kirk & Associates
enabled him to develop many close relationships. Our beloved Jerry will
continue to bring happiness and inspiration to those he touched throughout
his life. It is a joyous occasion that Jerry has joined Christ and is with
departed loved ones who include his father, Clyde Kirk and brothers, Charles
Kirk and Clyde Kirk, Jr. He leaves behind many loved ones, including his
wife, Martha Boone Kirk of Roanoke; mother, LouEllen Kirk of Christiansburg;
son, Jerry Kirk and wife, Kathleen of Philadelphia, Pa.; daughter, Dani
Roupe and husband, Scott of Roanoke; grandchildren, Nicholas Kirk and Jacob
Roupe; brother, Joe Kirk and Paddi Lucas; sisters, Juanita Harvey and
husband, George, Mary Sutphin, Barbara Shelburne and husband, John, Sally
Cox and husband, Elwood; and many nieces, nephews and aunts. Funeral
services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the First
United Methodist Church in Salem with Rev. Bobby Pickle and Rev. Virgil
McHone officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The
family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5, 2000 from 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Salem Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers,

KIRTNER, Mazzie Shelor, 89, of Radford, went to meet her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at New River Valley Medical Center. She was a member of the Radford Worship Center for more than 70 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eunice May Roberts, four brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include her loving husband of 71 years, Raymond P. Kirtner of Radford; a son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Edmond and Ruth Kirtner of Pulaski County; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara E. and Elton E. Lancaster of Falcon, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Elsie Shelor of Radford, and Calvert and Alice Shelor of Wildwood, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Mildred Shelor; four grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, two greatgrandchildren and five step-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Radford Worship Center with the Rev. Hal Adams, the Rev. Steve Willis and the Rev. Elton Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

KITTS, Daniel Allen, 58, of 5631 Rolling Hills Dr., Dublin, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2003 at the New River Valley Medical Center. Born February 18, 1944 in Pulaski, Va., he was the son of the late John Graham Kitts and Ora Nellie Ramsey Kitts. Two brothers, Archie G. Kitts and Clifford E. Kitts and one son, Jeffrey Kitts and former wife, Betty Akers Kitts, also preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Surviving are his wife, Carol R. Johnson Kitts, Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, J. B. and Michelle Kitts, Tennille, Ga.; sisters, Faye Hall, Magee, Miss., Mary B. Kitts, Norfolk, Va.; brothers, J. W. and wife Laura Kitts, Clinton, Miss; grandchildren, Austin and Brady Kitts, Tennill, Ga.; stepchildren, Kathy A. Higgs and Stanley of Pearisburg, Wayne and Teresa Akers of Staffordsville, Rocky and Pam Akers of Pulaski, Mark Akers of Pearisburg; stepgrandchildren, Shannon Akers, Danny Pyles, Jr., Whitney Akers, Tommy Akers, Dennis Pyles and Kristen Higgs; stepgreat-grandchildren, Audrey and Austin Akers; sisters-in-law, Joyce Anders, Galas, Norman Carico and husband Roger, Galax; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Joy. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the River of Life Ministries (Pentecostal Holiness Church), Narrows, Va. (Wolfcreek) with Pastor Terry Mays officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bobwhite Blvd., Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to the River of Life Ministries, Narrows, Va. or the American Cancer or Diabetes Association. Mrs. Fanny Anna KNAPP, prominent early Pulaskian, of 924 Prospect Ave., died Friday afternoon In Pulaski General Hospital following a brief Illness.
Born In Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Edmund A. NOYES and Anna WELLS NOYES, she was the widow of Warren Emerson KNAPP, chief chemist at General Chemical Co.
Mrs. Knapp was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church; the Round Dozen Club and a past president of the Woman"s Club of Pulaski. She and her husband assisted in founding the PTA in Pulaski County schools.
She had served as secretary of religious education in the Southwest Virginia Diocese of the Episcopal Cburch and she was active in various civic affairs of Pulaski. The Pulaskian was
chairman of the board of Pulaski County Library and later was a member of the board for many years..
She Is survived by two sons,
Benjamin KNAPP, Falls Church,
and Emerson KNAPP, Brega, Libya ; four daughters, Miss Caroline KNAPP, Mrs. Roby K. SUTHERLAND and Miss Mary KNAPP, all the of Pulaski, and Mrs. Charles HENSKE, Jacksonville.. Ill,, six grandchildren and four great- in
grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Hugh White officiating.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Marie E. Knowles, 59, of Hurricane died January 12, 2002, after an eight-month battle with cancer.
Born June 3, 1942, in Pulaski, Virginia, she was the daughter of Eileen Kimbler of Columbia, South Carolina, and the late Carl Kimbler.
She was an RCNA at Arthur B. Hodges Center for 11 years.
Surviving: husband of 40 years, David R. Knowles; children, Debbie Handley and husband, Randy, of Hurricane, Robert Knowles and wife, Lori, of Wichita, Kansas, and David W. Knowles and wife, Tammie, of Columbia; sisters, Linda Hamlin, Bobby Wymer and Carol Johnston; brother, Butch Kimbler; 19 grandchildren.
Service was held Thursday, January 17, 2002, at Valley View Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Hurricane, with the Rev. James Robertson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Memorial Park.
Allen Funeral Home, Hurricane, was in charge of arrangements.

Knowles, Frances A., 73, of Christiansburg died Wednesday morning,
September 16, 1998, in a Blacksburg health care center. She was retired
from Radford Army Ammunition Plant, where she served many years as a
registered nurse. Surviving are one son, William M. Knowles, two daughters
and sons-in-law, Patricia and Richard H. Horne, Christiansburg, their
children, Heather L. Horne, Winter Park, Fla. and Brian R. H. Horne,
Christiansburg, Katinka and Dale Hawley, Christiansburg, and their
children, Jeff and John Hawley, both of Christiansburg; one sister, Mildred
Thompson Check, three brothers and sisters-in-law, John F. and Louise
Angle, Warner Robins, Ga., Sam and Gwinn Angle, Radford, Lewis and
Christine Angle of Check. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday from the
Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by The Rev. Doug Kanney.
Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of
flowers that memorials be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, Box 3754,
Radford, Va. 24153, the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 220 W. Main St.,
Christiansburg, Va. 24073, or the church or charity of one's choice.
Friends may call after noon Thursday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home,
and the family will receive friends there from 6 to 8 p.m.

Maggie Bell Turner Kress, 95, of 1004 E. Fourth St., Pulaski, VA died early Sunday morning, July 20, 2003, in the Radford Nursing Home and Rehab Center, Radford, VA. She was born on July 30, 1907 in Virginia and was the daughter of the late Russell and Bertie Cooper Turner. She was also preceded in death by three sons, David Kress, June Kress and Buddy Kress, by sisters, Rheildy Warf, Kelly Quesenberry, Bennie Goad, Mary Elizabeth Burton, Aelia Warf and Rose Porterfield, by brothers, Charles Turner, Burnis Turner and Frank Turner, by two grandchildren and by one great-grandson. She is survived by son & daughter-in-law Stuart (Dean) and Kathleen Kress, Newbern; Daughter-In-Law Violet Kress, Pulaski; Daughters & Son-In-Law Claudia Crowder, Pulaski, Josephine Bishop, Pulaski, Joyce & Randal Nester, Dublin, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Minister Eddie Callahan officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin.
