Roger Marshall "Hop" Kegley, Sr., 79, of 715 Hickory Avenue, Pulaski, died Thursday morning, June 26, 2003 at his home. He was born in Pulaski, Va. on April 15, 1924, and was the son of the late French W. Kegley and Ellen Kirkner Kegley Thompson. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Neal Pierson Kegley, Sr., Douglas E. Kegley, Sr. and French W. Kegley, Jr. He was retired from Air Control Corporation, Pulaski. He was a veteran having served during World War II in the United States Navy and he was on a destroyer escort. Surviving are: his wife, Marjorie Kegley, Pulaski; children, Cynthia Davis, Pulaski, Kathleen Linkous, Pulaski, Roger M. Kegley, Jr., Pulaski, Rod M. Kegley, Dublin; step children, William C. Welch, Fla., David L. Welch, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. Arnold “Erline” Lester, Pulaski, Mrs. Douglas “Doris” Flick, Shawsville, Mrs. T. D. “Imogene” Newman, Pulaski, Mrs. Monty “Barbara” Monteith, Pulaski; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. from Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski with Rev. Don Sizemore officiating. in a Dublin nursing home. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness
Church in Radford. She was born January 2, 1911, daughter of the late
William T. and Ida K. Viers. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Oakley Maynard Kenley and a daughter, Bettey Jo Kenley. She leaves to
cherish her memory three daughters, Mary K. Kirtner and Virginia K. Smart
and her husband, Ellwood Smart, all of Radford and Judy K. Duncan of
Kingston, Tenn.; two sons, Ralph E. Kenley and his wife, Evalina Kenley and
Richard L. Kenley and his wife, Linda J. Kenley, all of Radford; a brother,
Jack Viers and his wife, Ethel Viers; a sister, Joann Alderman; 14
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her very special friend, Tom
Price. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2001 at 2 p.m. at

Dr. Linda Rose Killen, 57, of Belspring, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at Pulaski Community Hospital. She was the youngest daughter of James and Alice Killen. Born in Washington D.C., raised as a military "brat" as she described it, she grew up in Japan, The United Kingdom, Yugoslavia, Pakistan and Korea. Having completed high school in Seoul, Korea, she returned to the United States for her further education. She received her BA with honors from the University of Wisconsin in 1966 and her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in 1975. In 1976, she joined the History Department at Radford University where she taught for 26 years and retired in the Spring of 2001. Her areas of expertise were in American Diplomatic and Russian history. She was the author of four well received texts in her chosen subject of U.S. Diplomatic History and Foreign Affairs as well as numerous articles published in academic journals. During her professional life she was the recipient of several awards and grants including a Fulbright Research grant to Yugoslavia in 1986, was a fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center in the summer of 1988, was granted Faculty Professional Development Leave in 1986 and again in 1993, the recipient of the Donald N. Dedmon Award for Professorial Excellence in 1985 and in 1994 was nominated for the SCHEV Outstanding Teacher Award. Her service to Radford University included participation in the Bookstore Advisory Committee, Faculty Grievance Committee, Faculty Affairs Council and secretary to the General Faculty. She worked with several NCATE accreditation efforts, sat on the editorial board of the College of Arts & Sciences Occasional Publication series, served as a judge for National History Day and faculty adviser to Pi Gamma Mu. Her memberships included the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations on which she served a term on the national council, the Virginia Society of History Teachers, the New River Valley Historical Society, and the Radford Heritage Foundation. Her last years were spent researching the historical development of Radford and Pulaski County with a special emphasis on the role of the Black American population of the area. This work resulted in several publications and speaking engagements as well as an extensive collection of documents, photographs and artifacts documenting lives of both white and black communities over the past 200 years. Survivors include a sister, Sandra Killen of Herndon, Va.; a brother, Richard James Killen of Zurich, Switzerland; and two nephews, Andreas and Stefan Killen, both of New York City, N.Y. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Linda's former "riverhouse" beside Frank and Dallas Vines home at 7092 Depot Road. A reception will follow at the Killen home at 7573 Belspring Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Radford University Foundation / Alice B. Mrs. Raimey Pinnix KING, widow of Edward Oscar King, Sr., died Saturday afternoon in the Southwestern State Hospital
in Marion, Va. A former resident of 9 Ninth Street, N.W., in Pulaski, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was born in Danville, Va., and the daughter of the late William Gunn and Marie New PINNIX.
Surviving are a son, Edward Oscar KING, Jr., of Pulaski, and two grandsons.

Mrs Estelle Lilliam King 76 died last night at her home in Back Creek.
She is survived by one son Jesse King, Hiwassee, one daughter Mrs Nellie Mooney, Pulaski and one sister Mrs H.L. Craft, Washington, DC.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 from the Back Creek Holiness Church, conducted by Rev. Daniel Ridpath assisted by Mrs E.H. Gilmer. Burial will be in Thornspring Cemetery.

morning, May 12, 2000 in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born December 14, 1927
in Pulaski, he was the son of the late Grace Grubb King and Thomas C. King.
Mr. King was well known for many years as the friendly jogger, dressed in
red waving to everyone in Pulaski. He was a member of Faith Bible Church in
Pulaski, a retired United States Postal Clerk in Pulaski, a member of the
Gideons International, a well known volunteer with the Pulaski Health Care
Center for over 15 years, and an active volunteer with the area hospices,
and was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was preceded
in death by his wife, Gladys Duncan King. He is survived by a son, Gary Dean
King of Pulaski; two sisters, P. Ann King of Pulaski and Cheryl King
Underwood of Draper; two brothers, F. Wayne King of Fredericksburg, Va., and
John T. King of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at
Faith Bible Church with the Rev. Jim Linkous officiating. Interment will
follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, where the V.F.W. Post 1184 will
conduct military graveside rites. Visiting will be anytime Saturday after 2
