Incoming Residents will receive appropriate orientation at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.


PROCEDURE





  1. The orientation topics covered are in the Orientation Outline.




  1. The Administrative Assistant to Graduate and Residency Programs assists in coordinating the TBCC orientation sessions.




  1. In addition to departmental orientation, all new Residents are required to attend a facility orientation day coordinated by the Alberta Health Services.

POLICY



The safety of patients, staff, students and the public is a priority at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.


PROCEDURE





  1. One hour of orientation is designated for the TBCC Radiation Safety Officer.




  1. Physical hazards such as radiation, mechanical and electrical systems are covered, as well as possible biological hazards, during a structured orientation program.

POLICY



All staff physicists at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre participate, to some extent, in the program.



  1. TBCC staff physicists participate in the residency program, each taking the role of mentor on one of the Resident’s rotations.




  1. The resident is exposed to each physicist’s area of clinical responsibility.




  1. Scheduled contact between the mentor and resident is a key component of the clinical rotation experience.

Residents are employed by the TBCC with appointment at the Associate Medical Physicist level.

Financial Aid for Medical Physics Residents (2010) is as follows:

  1. Terms of employment for Associate Medical Physicists (Residents) are identical to those of regular staff physicists with the exception of the salary scale and the defined length of the appointment.




  1. Health, dental, pension benefits, etc. in particular are the same and comparable with those for any other government employee.




  1. The resident has access to travel allowance which is currently under review.




  1. Residents enrolled in the Post Ph.D. Diploma Program are responsible for all costs incurred as a result of their university affiliation.
