PROCEDURE





  1. The grounds for an appeal of such decision shall include, but not be restricted to the following:

a) i. procedural errors on the part of the ROPRPC



  1. failure of the ROPRPC to consider all factors relevant to the decision being appealed

  2. bias or discrimination against the appellant (resident) on the part of the ROPRPC

  1. All known grounds must be listed and explained in the appeal




  1. The ROPRPC shall meet with the resident regarding the resident’s performance or conduct.




  1. After meeting, the ROPRPC will determine if the resident is to be dismissed from the Program. Following the meeting, a letter will be given to the resident outlining the decision of the ROPRPC.




  1. If the resident is not dismissed, the ROPRPC shall outline any conditions which need to be met by the resident in order for the resident to continue in the Program. The resident and the Program Director will sign the letter which signifies that the resident has been informed of his/her status.

POLICY



Admission to the Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program follows a careful review of credentials and an interview process and approval by the Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program Committee.



  1. Candidates make application for admission to the program to the Residency Program Director.




  1. The application is considered if a position is available or likely to become available in the near future.




  1. The Program Director and Department Director will review applicants for academic suitability.




  1. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics or a related discipline.




  1. Preference will be given to graduates of CAMPEP accredited graduate programs. Initial suitable evaluation may involve telephone interview to short list candidates.




  1. Selected candidates may be invited to Calgary for interviews. Reasonable expenses will be covered.




  1. The interview process will include a 45 minute presentation on a relevant topic and an interview with the Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program Committee.




  1. The committee will rank suitable candidates.




  1. Offers of admission will be in accordance with standard Alberta Health Services policies for term staff positions.




  1. A condition of appointment of Ph.D. level candidates is that they enroll for the Post Ph.D. Diploma of the University of Calgary.

POLICY



The Medical Physics staff complement at the TBCC includes two funded residency positions.



  1. Residency positions will be advertised nationally.




  1. Residency positions are funded at the TBCC.




  1. Regular staff positions may be filled by residents in the absence of suitable qualified applicants.
