MILK

Multimedia Interaction for Learning and Knowing
Project Summary
The goal of the MILK project is to develop a knowledge management solution for web-oriented multimedia companies and e- commerce service providers, which integrates technological, organizational and business aspects for typical work situations of knowledge workers distributed over space and time. MILK will provide users with a smooth flow of knowledge through different work-situations: the MILK system will be accessible from PCs, social spaces and remote working spaces (mobile phones, PDAs…), supporting tleworking and mobile work situations. MILK will also develop methods and tools fostering KM processes within organisations, in particular for those organisations that are introducing e-business working models. MILK will be developed by a multidisciplinaryconsortium of partners coming from research and development, software development, IT system integration, interaction design and professional services.
Objectives: The goal of MILK is to develop a knowledge management solution for web-oriented multimedia companies and e-commerce service providers that integrates technological, organizational and business aspects for typical work situations of knowledge workers distributed over space and time. The need of real-time reaction to customer requests characterises these companies: they require on-line integration of business and KM processes. MILK aims to design a system located in distributed space, including rooms and oeen spaces in company's sites, and employees' houses to provide remote workspaces. Moreover, users will carry on the KM processes through an interconnected solution even when they are outside institutional spaces, like when they travel. MILK will also devepop and validate methods encouraging knowledge sharing both in a multi-functional intra-organisation way and within inter-organisational knowledge chains of companies with customers and business partners.

IDIA

Inclusive Design and Intelligent Technology for Accessible Workplace
Project Summary
In the knowledge-based economy the workplace is anywhere: irregardless of the individual location when intellectual work is underway. By including information and communication technologies on the premises one can describe the workplace as an ‘intelligent’ workplace.

The IDIA Network aims at integrating the potential of the intelligent workplace with the principle of Design for All, and thus develop a new concept for workplace design - moving the current mindset away from the ‘individual’ thinking, that tends to alter basic designs, towards including from the outset the maximum number of naturally diverse human beings in the design and planning process.

The IDIA Network will establish a multidisciplinary project team, coordinated by the IDIA Scientific Committee that will carry out interdisciplinary analysis and studies for identifying user needs for the design of an accessible workplace, assessment of current and future technologies, and derive a collection of reference scenarios

The IDIA Network will produce a number of exploitable results:

- Guidelines and prospective scenarios related to the uptake of a Europe-wide market for the production of new design components for accessible workplaces.
- A community of actors supporting IDIA‑compliant design concepts, that will continue to contribute ideas and results after the project end.

KNOWCOAT

Neural knowledge management solutions for the coating market value chain
Project Summary
The objective is an operational knowledge development, management and distribution platform for the coating industry. Transparent information within the coating industry will result in more correct and timely information at decision level. This results in higher quality products and processes reducing economical and environmental waste. Current waste is estimated at 400 MEuro per annum in Europe only. Social objectives include increase in work efficiency and improvement of health and working conditions. Resulting innovations are coating expert knowledge to transform unstructured information into accessible knowledge, and integration of state of the art information management tools. Project results dissemination and exploitation is actively pursued through the industry reference group. The EC is leading in coating technology. The project connects partners from 10 countries that because of expertise, would not be able to reach the objective independently.

AESOP

Architectural Environments for Smart Organisation Portals - AESOP
Project Summary
The objective of the project is to develop a coherent, architectural approach to change management including the configuration of services and systems that support and facilitate change itself. It aims to produce a comprehensive set of service and applications components for the configuration and operation of third generation portal which will support a flexible approach to the allocation of shared and dedicated resources. Additionally, there will need to exist both a change management and a systems configuration tool set for exploring, evaluating and negotiating the complex variable relationships that impact organisations. This will be specifically backed up by a populated, configured and validated set of examples in the correct business environment which will address the information brokerage and business support requirements of three pre-selected pilots organisations.
WP1 is general management while (WP2) is the technical development which will select, assemble and configure the portal. The Validation of the architecture of (WP3) is based up on pilot interactions, consultation between the 3 chosen organisations and the designers. The full scale pilot programmes will be part of WP4 which will seek to deploy the Change Management and Configuration management as part of the portal environment to assist in the introduction of new e-work methods across the 3 model organisation’s networks. (WP5) on dissemination and exploitation is still being more fully defined.
