Extended Network to Eastern Regions involving
Government Authorities, Industries and Academia
Project Summary
ENERGIA aims at promoting and disseminating Electronic Commerce applications in the context of International Co-operation while preparing the conditions for a better convergence of views, infrastructures and practices between EC and CEEC actors at all levels: political, industrial, technical, professional as well as academic. The approach consists in the involvement of these actors through specific activities, identifying and exploiting the best collaboration fields and leading to focused awareness actions and co-operative projects incubated by the ENERGIA project. In order to achieve its objectives, the ENERGIA project includes the following tasks: (1) identification of priorities and key actors aiming at favouring the emergence of co-operative projects through a preliminary desk study, (2) evaluation and consensus making regarding the possible actions through a Delphi Study addressed to key decision makers, (3) organisation of an International Conference Cycle with the participation of the highest authorities of the Eastern European countries, representatives of European Community and all of the actors involved in the project, (4) constitution of sector-based committees and organisation of workshops and working groups dedicated to the exchange of expertise and support to new business links, (5) creation of a Socio-economic and technological observatory in the participating countries, (6) development of the EWEN Regional Network through the implementation of a “irrigation and selection” process leading to Industrial Alliances, Research Co-operative projects, Joint Ventures, Start-up or Strategic Partnerships, (7) selection of the most significant co-operative projects to be launched in each country, which, together with a Dissemination Methodology and the results of the Delphi study, will be expounded in the Second International Conference.
ENERGIA relies on the support of EWEN-Portal for both transfer of knowledge and collaboration between practitioners.

The Regional Impact of the Information Society on Employment and Integration
Project Summary
The project will develop models for evaluating the social and economic changes created by the new information-based economy with particular reference to employment and employment opportunities in the ICT and ICT-related sectors. The study will illustrate national, regional and sectoral impacts as well as impacts on particular groups defined by national identity, immigrant background, gender and skills levels. It will explore barriers to employment facing key groups and explain to which extent these can be overcome through educational and training programmes and matching policies to promote social inclusion.

Sustainable Telework –
Assessing and Optimising the Ecological and Social Benefits of Teleworking
Project Summary
The project aims to develop a better understanding of the relationship between teleworking and sustainable development. The specific objectives are to:
Identify the ways in which teleworking supports or prevents the emergence of socially more acceptable ways of working and social inclusion and the variables which can be influenced in order to ensure positive outcomes
Assess the persistence of economic, social and ecological benefits of teleworking over time, and identify variables which influence the extent of these benefits
Assess the ways in which next generation technologies are changing the nature and outcomes of teleworking and identify and design deployment variables which can influence these.
The work will include surveys of teleworkers as well as six organisational case studies in each of the partner countries. It will also include the development of a sustainability assessment tool to help organisations better understand and manage the sustainability of their teleworking schemes.

Labour Market Changes and Welfare Perspectives in Europe
Project Summary
Labour market trends and welfare systems are currently among the most important issues debated in the European Union, due to the deep social and economic changes that are taking place. So far, these subjects have been analysed separately, generally neglecting the mutual connections. This project aims at filling in this gap, scrutinising the effects of the emerging atypical working profiles (self-employment, temporary work, tele-work) on the welfare systems in several EU countries. The data, gathered from heterogeneous sources and structured by means of standardised indicators, will be collected in a central database, for a comparative prospect of the current situation and a projection of the expected trends. The final results will be presented at an International Conference to be organised at this purpose.
The project outcome will be addressed to the institutions involved in the preparation and actuation of policies supporting employment and social protection, both at national and European level.

Global Electronic Medium Constellation for Dynamic Content Integration
Project Summary
GEMINI aims to exploit the opportunities deriving from the convergence of different mediums (Digital Television, Internet, Newspapers etc), the ability to transfer digital content fast, accurate and at low cost and the existence of several potential suppliers and customers. It will contribute to the economic development of the Community by providing means for the initialization, development and maintenance of a dynamic constellation delivering value to all the participants in the media and entertainment sector. The project introduces value-adding services to the consumers providing access to a large repository of (re-usable) content, based upon viewers’ requests and needs. In addition, GEMINI project will pave the ground in additional future services related to provision of content in any form and of any type in a user-friendly way.
The GEMINI project will provide an integrated mediation platform (GEMINI Service Provider) oriented to sport events that will satisfy four types of objectives:
User friendly content provision based on specific viewers demand, to the extent of aggregated content from different sources / mediums
Support of the broadcasting program with additional features and capabilities
Understand and extend the exact viewers needs in additional content provision
Support the creation of virtual communities thus supporting efficient targeting of the viewers
