Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Network of Excellence
Project Summary
The main aim of IMS-NoE is to create the proper environment to group academic and industrial communities for developing co-operation links, for co-ordinating current and future research, for facilitating knowledge transfer and dissemination of project results and for assessing the technological development and expertise in Europe in the key areas of design, engineering and control of manufacturing systems in the extended enterprise.
The project will fully exploit the experience and the relevant results gained by previous activities and ongoing projects in IMS and will also consider new and emerging trends and requirements from the industrial and research communities.
IMS NoE is the European part of a global IMS project.

Advanced REal-time MUlti-media and Networking Execution Platform and Development Environment
Project Summary
The REMUNE project aims
to develop the necessary tools, methods and runtime environment that will enable the manufacturing of telecommunications products with added intelligence, modular design, improved overall quality and inherent possibility for value-added services through their entire life-cycle. The way selected to achieve this is the migration from conventional methods and tools to design and manufacture telecommunication products to an integrated platform for developing from the very basic components to end-use products and services. In the context of IMS the project addresses primarily but not exclusively the design and development phase of telecommunications products manufacturing and the maintainability of such products through their entire life-cycle. The main goal of REMUNE is to develop and validate through industrial test-beds an advanced Real-Time Operating System and Development Environment (RTOS) supporting multimedia and networking services for embedded systems and product-services. The REMUNE architecture will allow for a direct decrease of the standard telecommunications software development life cycle, thus having significant impact on products cost. The project builds on the experience of the industrial and academic partners of the consortium. The project is both a research and development/integration project that aims to provide a realistic and high quality solution to the telecommunications product development issues with special attention on the real time aspects and the embedded software sub-systems.
REMUNE will serve as a common operating system and development platform providing a full range of sophisticated application capabilities for the production of modern telecommunication product-service systems. The applications range from small real-time embedded systems, up to complex parallel and distributed configurations with multiple operating system personalities, single system image and high availability/ maintainability requirements;
