Design for the Humanization of Technology
Project Summary
The goal of the Project Design for the Humanization of Technology is to develop a study/analysis of the concept of office space, no longer interpreting it as an aggregation of separate functions, but as a series of social and productive “interrelations,” with the objective of providing furniture manufacturers with suggestions for new ways to confront the challenges posed by changes in communications technology. By calling together experts, design centers, universities, technology producers and furniture manufacturers, our discussions will produce concrete examples of how to improve the quality and humanity of the workplace, comparing various solutions to the problems created by new technologies. Humantec is a thematic network which is open to new members. This project will take place under the direction of an International Scientific Committee and will develop first through local meetings, then over the Internet, and finally in an international convention that will facilitate the widest possible diffusion of the project’s goals and results.

Promoting Co-operation of Central Europe in eBusiness
Project Summary
The objective is to unlock the research potential in Central Europe for international co-operation in the areas of eWork and eCommerce. The work under the project will create synergistic links between companies and multipliers (national and regional contact points) in several neighbouring countries at interregional and international level. Through partner search and brokerage, this potential will be opened to wide international co-operation within the IST Programme. It will help directly about 150 e-business and e-commerce companies from Poland, Czech Republic and other Central European countries in developing skills, and result in 50 defined project ideas in preparation for submission for funding. Managers will be encouraged to be more active as project evaluators or experts monitoring project progress. The project will contribute to education of societies in Central Europe in advanced information technologies, their applications into eCommerce and eWork, and to promotion of the eEurope initiative. It will contribute to harmonisation of the structure and skills of research potential throughout Europe.

A Cross Cultural Study on the Measurement and Enhancement of Employability in Small and Medium Sized ICT Companies
Project Summary
In an ever changing, global, technologically demanding business environment, sourcing and retaining talent becomes the competitive battleground. One way to adapt the activities of firms to the exigencies of the fast changing demands in their environment, is to increase the employability of personnel. This involves (both at the level of the individual as well as the organisation) the enhancement of job-related expertise and professional growth. In this project, seven European countries will provide psychometrally sound survey and interview data on software engineers working in SMEs in the ICT sector. Recommendations and a selection of the practical results to enhance employability will be communicated to SMEs, IST projects, policy makers and other related stakeholders. Moreover, best employability practices will be identified and disseminated widely across Europe.

Development of a System of Indicators on Competitiveness
and Fiscal Impact on Enterprises Performance
Project Summary
The project covers key and long debated EU issues on indicators, competitiveness and the impact of public policy. Within this broader topic it deals with issues of how public policy for enterprises and economic activity (notably tax and support policies) can be chartered and benchmarked by means of a system of ad hoc indicators derived from (a) a multi source, integrated data base of cross-section and longitudinal microdata from enterprise administrative registers and surveys and (b) microsimulation models that can serve to simulate and monitor how policy affects the competitive process and, by so doing, foster or hinder living standards, opportunities, the growth of knowledge and innovation, and the process of development and renewal of e- and non e-activities. The analysis has a national and, a no longer avoidable but still under researched EU perspective. The latter is a key features that is highly innovative and of utmost value for Community policy.

European Network for the Promotion of Standards
and eBusiness in the AEC Sector
Project Summary
The Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector in Europe is one of the most important world-wide, with 26 million workers in the EU, depending directly or indirectly on it. However, due to the short term perspective of business partnerships, typical for the sector, as well as due to the sector’s high fragmentation, it is difficult to harmonise inter-enterprise solutions long-term.
ProDAEC will set up and sustain a Thematic Network for the European AEC sector that promotes the use and implementation of standards and best practices regarding product data exchange, e-work and e-business through expert groups and National Information Points.
