DRAGON

Development of an inteRActive EnGineering Portal for Open Networks
Project Summary
The DRAGON project aims at the development of an Engineering Portal in order to innovatively support collaboration between dislocated business partners who have a common engineering task. Collaborations in this sense span from short term, project oriented co-operations to long term co-operations, like joint ventures. The first hurdle to take is to find adequate collaboration partners which meet the established requirements. Then a collaboration has to be agreed upon. After that, so-called virtual teams are typically established across the companies' borders who do the engineering and administrative tasks. This scenario is particularly relevant to European companies as the globalisation of producer and consumer markets is rapidly advancing.

TRUE-VOTE

A Secure and Trustable Internet Voting System Based on PKI

Project Summary
The proposal aims at testing a critical tool that will represent a significant value within the emerging services over the Internet. The project is designed to realise an Internet based voting service that will provide users with a tool for expressing their opinion. This project will address the issues of trust and confidence over the Internet by designing, implementing and testing a secure service. In fact the voting system relies upon a PKI for its correct operation and will enable demonstrating parties to use digital signature technology and smart cards for voting operations. The proposed voting system will be useful within a range of voting options from polls to different surveys. Studies on the impact of the testing activities will be carried out addressing issues such as user returns on polling activities of geographically distributed organisations.

Enhancing Knowledge Management in Enterprises
Project Summary
The proposal aims to contribute to enhance the take up of Knowledge Management in enterprises by showing some way for doing it. It features a pragmatic approach based on two concrete significant industrial applications which will provide guidelines for the development of methods and tools to support KM. One application deals with complex system manufacturing and client support, it concerns the design and development of customised courses for helicopter buyers in distributed sites. The other application is in the area of waste processing and recycling. It will provide the members of a network of collaborating organisations with the capability to trade knowledge for the development of new processes and for the creation of new business opportunities. The project applications are in different domains, they have different objectives and they will provide a good measure of the generality and the adaptability of the concepts, methods and tools to be proposed.
The main industrial objectives of the proposal are to improve business operations in the selected applications of user partners 1 and 2 and to show the way for knowledge management up take in these partners organisations.

For application 1 (customer training in one-of-the-kind complex products manufacturing):

  • To have easy access to the knowledge needed to design training courses.

  • To benefit from on-line expert guidance to develop training courses from templates, reusable parts and available knowledge.

For application 2 (organic waste processing and recycling):

  • To benefit from ICT support to conduct negotiations with customers and/or potential partners in other countries and to trade knowledge.
