Thematic network for Supporting Methods of management Systems for suppliers and consumers, E-Work and E-commerce in the Maritime World
Project Summary
Aimed to insure a wider involvement and participation of Maritime End-Users in the EC RTD Framework Programmes, specially maritime SMEs for wider and adaptive services, E-MAR will contribute to stimulate the activity of Maritime players towards e-work and e-commerce and to sustain European maritime business towards the new skill base SMEs’ need to maximise profitability and employment. E-mar will evaluate medium and long term market needs with respect to: a) The type and volume of products and services within the currently addressed areas of the Maritime Transport Chain; investigate for areas relevant to the e-commerce and e-work but not yet addressed by the maritime industry RTD projects; b) the required Information Technological knowledge and ability by the industry to provide the market with the required products and services in sufficient quantities and at competitive prices. The network treats technology in relation to market and society needs from a medium and long term prospect hereby enhancing the technological coherence and synergy between the various areas of interest within the Maritime Industry: the Maritime Transport Chain and the Marine Resources.
E-MAR objectives are:- To identify gaps or shortcomings and to permit maritime SMEs to jointly identify needs for enhancing the competitiveness of the European Maritime Industry by using appropriate e-work and e-business; - To provide the basic ground for enhancing the understanding of innovation and by promoting the IST programme with special reference to e-work and e-business Maritime Applications;- To generate a higher level of awareness at bottom and top level, which includes The Maritime Industries Forum, the Supporting Group of the Maritime Regions, and the Maritime City Networks.
E-MAR work is basically within the following activities :Supporting Group; plenary meetings; Local workshop-events. The work will be developed at three levels. Dissemination of state of the art and Best Practices based on EC RTD success stories for e-work and e-commerce. Collecting the end-users requirements for e-work and stimulating their awareness and preparedness to innovate their business process and re-engineering the way of working for competing in global markets. Supporting ongoing RTD projects in maritime or related e-work by providing overall end-user assessment of likely results and applications.

Web-enabled Information Services for Engineering
Project Summary
WISE will provide a platform for knowledge sharing and management in product development and manufacturing. This platform will not only provide IT tools and methods for handling knowledge assets but will also specify processes and organisational changes to make the smart organisation feasible. WISE will model and analyse workable processes for typical multi-partner networks engaged in product creation. This will help remedy the current situation and make suggestions for adapting the prevailing corporate culture towards a knowledge culture.WISE will build prototypes for improving the learning curve of networked organisations to become "smart". The orientation of the technical work is towards the development of efficient and integrated modules for modelling, acquiring, maintaining, retrieving, distributing, and re-using knowledge throughout the complete product development process and all involved partners.

Empowering audio content providers through E-work and interactivity management to exploit audio knowledge bases in the market for interactive audio entertainment
Project Summary
AUDIOTAIN was designed to enable audio content providers such as radio broadcasters to exploit existing knowledge databases for new interactive audio entertainment services. New methods of e-work and knowledge management functionalities shall allow for the dynamic re-purposing of audio material; on the back end side a tool will be developed that helps arrange items out of a content management system into multimedia streams. This rich media stream will be made interactive in different ways: it will be used for quiz games as well as e-learning. Both being multi-user application types, they will allow for different ways of user participation, as for example in a virtual class room.
The main task is to provide major content providers like broadcasters who own huge audio knowledge bases with tools for capturing, organising and mining audio knowledge with a particular view to audio-commerce and content re-purposing (dynamically extracting and re-combining audio material). Thus immeasurable wealth in audio knowledge can be delivered to the customer in entertaining, edutaining ways and even give them a chance to interact, contrary to the standards of exclusively passive perception. Different strategies and levels of user interaction are planned in both the quiz and e-learning applications, ideally enabling the user to not only answer, but also contribute, e.g. to the questions asked in the applications.

Knowledge Management for Smart Technology Transfer
Extended Enterprises Advanced Experiment
Project Summary
SMART2EAM objective is to trial, evaluate and document the impact of
implementing a Knowledge Management and Collaborative system in an
association of Technology Transfer (TT) organisations. The system integrates
results of 3 EU R&D projects proposing, at prototype stage, solutions for:
Collaborative Network management, Information integration (Knowledge
repository and Knowledge extraction XML tools) and tools for off-line mail
workflow-web-based systems. Through the integration of these technologies and
their adaptation to the users' needs, SMART2EAM’s scope is: the reorganisation
and sharing of knowledge among the users; the exploitation of the knowledge
resident in each one of the user-SMEs and the reengineering of processes allowing
for a transition from traditional client-company relationship to a web based
service delivery and a more efficient TT process.

Web Solution for the Remote Presence in Exhibitions and Showhouses
Project Summary
eFairs focuses on the need for an easy, readily available, customisable and cost effective service through which specialised audiences can be virtually present in actual remote exhibitions or showhouses through the Internet. This solution employs state-of-the-art technology and takes full advantage of the Internet capabilities and latest image processing techniques. eFairs enables users of the service to access remote visual content in an interactive manner, thus allowing them to obtain visual and descriptive information which until now is only provided through on-site presence.

e-Power – Powering Europe’s Regional Economy
Project Summary
e-Power will create a large European network of Regional Technology Centres (RTC) serving SME communities in the Engineering and Manufacturing sector. The Network will focus on supporting RTCs in their objective of facilitating the take up of e-business and e-work technologies by SMEs. The results will be documented by means of a Regional Profile for each Regional Centre in the Network.
This work will be co-ordinated by Special Interest Groups (SIGs) meeting regularly at national and European level during the project to identify the SME ICT priorities for the future.
Two conferences will be organised to consolidate the work of the SIGs; disseminate the results of the regional analyses; promote the technology centres and actively encourage partnerships between RTCs.
e-Power will be supported by a network website and information portal which will provide the communications infrastructure and a knowledge base of the implementation of e-technologies in engineering and manufacturing. The portal will contain the Regional profiles plus, case studies, white papers, relevant projects at European, national and regional level.
The dissemination and exploitation of e-Power will focus on promoting the network, Regional Centres, knowledge base and the RTD activities of the Initiative throughout Europe by utilising the contacts and relationships of the Regional Centres and the Partners.
The project seeks to support the EU directorates, the research community, national governments, regional authorities but, above all, the regional communities of SMEs in the engineering and manufacturing sector.
