On occasion, I might curve the hourly exam grades, but I will not curve the final grade.
Final grades will be determined by the following grading scale:
93% and above = A
90%-92.999% = A-
87.500%-89.999% = B+
83%-87.499% = B
80%-82.999% = B-
77.500%-79.999% = C+
73%-77.499% = C
70%-72.999% = C-
60%-69.999% = D
59.999% and below = F
Yes, percentages carried out to three decimal points are a bit ridiculous, but I want you to know where your grade falls out upfront. Note that if you get an 89.999% you get a B+, there will be no rounding up to an A-. Please make sure you understand this.
I do not give out extra-credit and I do not change grades at whim. Remember: Grades are earned by you, not assigned by me.
All disputes over questions and/or answers to exam questions must be addressed in writing. That is, if you want to dispute the answer to a multiple-choice question, you MUST write down your dispute and email it to me. In your written dispute, please include details that support your argument, using examples from the lectures (do not use wikipedia!). I will take your written dispute under consideration, but simply writing a dispute will not guarantee that your grade will change.
YOU CAN ONLY DISPUTE A QUESTION WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF THE EXAM. I won’t consider disputes, for example, written in December for an exam taken in October.
Because of the large number of students in this class all tests are graded by Scantron. You must correctly fill out the correct answer on the scantron; if you fill out the correct answer on the exam copy but not the scantron, you will not receive credit for that question—more simply, only the scantron will be graded.
Attendance
There is no strict attendance policy simply because in a class of 200+ students it is not feasible to check and see if every student is present. Let me put it this way: if you are enrolled in this class, you will benefit by attending lectures.
