Mary Landry, of Franklin Towers, Portland, one of Maine's most senior citizens, upon the honored occasion of the celebration of "May is Older Americans Month." Laura Honey, of Boothbay, who is the recipient of the Tourism Award from the Maine Office of Tourism and the Maine Tourism Commission. This award is presented to those who lead by example and honors those in the tourism industry who dedicate their work to promoting Maine as a hospitable destination. It is because of the work of people like Ms. Honey that many visitors return to Maine many times. We acknowledge her dedication to the State of Maine and we extend to her our congratulations on her receiving this award; (HLS 750)

the students at Berwick Elementary School, who raised $772.93 for the victims of the tsunami disaster in South Asia. The 4th and 5th grade students earned this money through hard work, such as shoveling snow and similar efforts. The money was donated to Save The Children. We acknowledge the students' humanitarian efforts in raising funds and we extend our congratulations to them; (HLS 751)

Mike Morin, of Sanford, a junior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, New Hampshire. He earned a top seed in wrestling at the New Hampshire Division II State Championship and went on to win the state title in his 145-pound weight class, as well as placing 3rd in the Meet of Champions in New Hampshire. He competed and placed in the New England Championship tournament. We extend our congratulations to Mike on his achievements; (HLS 752)

Boyd J. Hopkins, of Bucksport. Mr. Hopkins attended Bucksport schools until his senior year when he attended and graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, in 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, where he was in the 65th Army MP Corp. stationed in Austria. For 43 years he was employed by Seaboard, St. Regis and Champion Paper Companies. Mr. Hopkins was a charter member of DeMolay Ellsworth Order and was then in Felicity Lodge No. 19, where he went through all the chairs in Blue Lodge and was past master of Blue Lodge. He was master of Verona and Narramisic Grange and also a member of Hancock Pemona and State grange. He was a charter member of the 4-H Clover Club and a past leader of the Millvale Helping Hands. Being in charge of 4-H Government Day afforded him the opportunity to chaperone the Hancock County members to the State House each year. Mr. Hopkins was a member of the Hancock County Agricultural Society for more than 30 years and was a member of the East Bucksport Methodist Church. He will be dearly missed by his loving extended family and his numerous friends; (IN MEMORIAM) (HLS 753)

Martin E. Ryan, of Wells, Director of Athletics at Kennebunk High School, who has been chosen as the 2005 National Athletic Director of the Year by the National Council of Secondary School Athletic Directors. Mr. Ryan is recognized as an outstanding leader who maintains athletics as an integral part of the total educational program. As an exemplary administrator, he promotes the involvement of as many students as possible and emphasizes both athletic and academic achievement. He is committed to excellence and to the young people at Kennebunk High School for whom he promotes athletics as a vehicle to learn important lessons about life. We extend our congratulations to Mr. Ryan on his receiving this award; (HLS 754)

Fred Pecci, of Bath, who was presented with the McKague/Maddocks Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Maine Arborist Association. Mr. Pecci was the City Arborist for Bath from 1946 to 1998. He has overseen the management of Bath's community forest and has been an exemplary steward of the trees of the area. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to him on his receiving this honor; (HLS 755)

Joe Allen, Sr., of Levant, who won the Strictly Street Race at Speedway 95 in Hermon. We send our congratulations and best wishes to him on his accomplishment; (HLS 756)

Clarence McCullough, of Kenduskeag, who placed second in the truck race at Speedway 95 in Hermon. We send him our congratulations and best wishes; (HLS 757)

Tara Trask, of China, a student at China Middle School, who won first place at the Maine State Future Problem Solving Bowl in the middle individual written contest and who will go on to compete in the international competition. We extend our congratulations to Tara on this achievement and we send her our best wishes; (HLS 758)

Anna Rodriguez, of China, a student at China Middle School, who won second place at the Maine State Future Problem Solving Bowl in the middle individual written contest and who will go on to compete in the international competition. Barbara Ann Hoppin, of Peaks Island, on the occasion of her retirement from the post of Island Principal for the elementary schools of Cliff Island and Peaks Island. Ms. Hoppin has served proudly as one of the very few island school principals in Maine from 1999 to 2005. A 1964 graduate in history from Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts, she received her Master's Degree in curriculum and teaching from Columbia University Teachers College in 1989. She began her career in 1964 as a 4th grade teacher in Springfield, Massachusetts and for 20 years served in staff development and high school enrichment in Ramsey, New Jersey. There she served as president of the staff development council and in 1989 received the Governor's Education Recognition Award. She joined the Portland school system in 1999, serving 2 of Maine's oldest continuously operating island schools as principal. She is a volunteer mentor at the Cancer Community Center of Southern Maine and an active member of the President's Council for Youth Alternatives. Her dedication and diligence symbolize the spirit of achievement and endurance of Maine, her beloved adopted "Pine Tree State"; (HLS 760)

Jordan and Derek Pearson, of Glenburn, on their fundraising efforts for the Children's Miracle Network with their "Kids Racing for Kids" campaign. They will be conducting fundraisers at the Speedway 95 race track and other events such as the car show at Wal-Mart and the Speedway 95 preview at the Airport Mall. Jordan won Strickly Street Rookie of the Year last year and placed in the top 3 in 16 of 20 races. He also won the Safety Award and the Tech Award. Derek has finished 2nd in points twice. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to them on their efforts; (HLS 761)

Angela Nicknair, of Glenburn, who is the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship. She has been accepted at St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to her; (HLS 762)

Spenser Fitts, of the Maine Central Institute Music Program, in Pittsfield, for his numerous musical accomplishments. Spenser is a junior at MCI and began his formal musical journey in 5th grade. He plays tenor saxophone for the Instrumental Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Combo. This was his first year as a member of the Jazz Choir. He received an Outstanding Woodwind Musician award in Division II Jazz Bands and Outstanding Male Vocalist in Division II Jazz Choirs while competing at the Maine State Jazz Festival. He was also named Outstanding Soloist-Tenor Saxophone while competing in Williamsburg, Virginia at the Music in the Parks competition. Spenser has been named to the Maine All-State Jazz Band as lead tenor saxophone player, a goal he has diligently pursued for many years. We commend Spenser on the numerous hours he has dedicated to his studies and congratulate him on his many awards; (HLS 763)

Maine Central Institute Music Program, of Pittsfield, for its outstanding accomplishments this past year. The MCI Instrumental Jazz Combo placed 3rd in Division II Jazz Combos and the Instrumental Jazz Ensemble placed 2nd in Division III Jazz Bands at the Maine State High School Instrumental Jazz Festival. The MCI Vocal Jazz Ensemble placed 1st in Division II Jazz Choirs at the Maine State High School Vocal Jazz/Show Choir Festival. Members of the music program have also been recognized on an individual level, as 2 received honors during the competition, 2 were named to Maine's All-State Jazz Ensembles and 3 were accepted to Maine's All-State Band/Chorus. We congratulate the Maine Central Institute Music Director, Dean Neal, for his excellent leadership, knowledge and unyielding support of the young men and women in this exemplary program; (HLS 764)

Kate Zarolinski, of the Maine Central Institute Music Program, in Pittsfield, for her numerous musical accomplishments. Kate is a senior at MCI and has been a member of the singing group during her 4 years at the school. She also plays the piano for the Instrumental Jazz Ensemble. She received an Outstanding Female Vocalist award in Division II Jazz Choir at the Maine State High School Vocal Jazz/Show Choir Festival. She was named to the All-State Honors Jazz Choir, the 4th year she has qualified for this top State ensemble. She was also accepted to Maine's All-State Jazz Ensemble and Maine's All-State Band/Chorus. We commend her on the many years of hard work and dedication she has committed to her music studies. We extend our best wishes to Kate as she continues with her studies at Syracuse University's Music Theater program; (HLS 765)

MSAD #75, on being selected for two 2005 Excellence in Coordinated School Health Awards; for its exemplary Health Promotion and Wellness program and its School Counseling, Physical and Behavioral Health Services. It is only 1 of 2 school systems in the State that is receiving both awards this year. We extend our congratulations to MSAD #75 on its receiving this honor; (HLS 766)

Nicholas Ciomei, of Stonington, a student at Deer Isle-Stonington High School, who is the recipient of the 2005 Principal's Award given by the Maine Principals' Association. The award is given in recognition of a high school senior's academic achievement and citizenship. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to Nicholas on his receiving this award; (HLS 769)

the Deer Isle-Stonington Elementary School K-3 and K-6 chess teams on winning the 2005 Maine State Scholastic Chess Championships for their sections. Dana Hagerman, of Berwick, who is retiring after many years as a volunteer at the Berwick Elementary School. Mr. Hagerman is a retired police officer and has volunteered at the school for longer than anyone can remember. He organizes the student council, known as the Student Youth Power Council, which does charity work. He also runs the student store. We extend our appreciation to Mr. Hagerman for his commitment to the youth of Berwick and send best wishes on his future endeavors; (HLS 783)

Megan Wilson, of Levant, who tied for first place for the 6th grade in the American History Essay Contest sponsored by the Maine Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a student at Bangor Christian School. We extend our congratulations to Megan on this accomplishment; (HLS 785)

the Somerville Volunteer Fire Department as it celebrates its 40 years of existence. The department started in 1965 with a handful of volunteers and has increased to a force of 22 firefighters. The department serves the citizens of Somerville as well as 5 surrounding towns as part of mutual aid agreements. Somerville Volunteer Fire Department is known for its rapid response time and team-oriented firefighting strategies. The department has a reputation of recruiting young volunteers to ensure the future success of the department. We extend our appreciation to the Somerville Volunteer Fire Department for its commitment in serving the citizens of the State; (HLS 786)

the following 6th-grade students at China Middle School on the Future Problem Solving Junior division team: Jenny Prescott, Brittany Sharpe, Kate O'Connor, Jessica Howard and alternate Dan Mather. The team won first place in the Junior division written booklet contest and 4th in the presentation of action plan skit competition at the Maine State Future Problem Solving Bowl and goes on to represent the State at the international contest. Irma Bowles, of Livermore, on the occasion of her 90th birthday, June 7, 2005. Ms. Bowles has been the registrar of voters for more than 32 years. She has been involved with the Norlands for 26 years, served as a 4-H leader for more than 40 years, participated in Girl Scouts for 10 years and is a member of the Red Hat Society. Dustin Eirdosh, of Bar Harbor, who is the recipient of a Kids Consortium Outstanding Leadership Award. He launched the Sustainable Agriculture Program at Mount Desert High School, which has helped failing students return to school. Beryl Ayotte, of Presque Isle, who is the recipient of the 2005 Service to Maine Youth Award from the Maine Principals' Association for making an outstanding contribution to the youth of Maine through education and for contributing to the general welfare of Maine youth. Mr. Ayotte has volunteered in the Industrial and Farm Mechanics program at Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center for the past 12 years. He has averaged about 850 volunteer hours per year. Shawn Cunningham, of Presque Isle, who was named the 2005 District IV Young Careerist by the District IV Business and Professional Women's Club. We extend our congratulations and best wishes to her on her receiving this honor; (HLS 797)

Darla Chafin, of Augusta, who is the recipient of the John F. Murphy Homes, Inc. Lifetime Service Award. Mrs. Chafin has devoted her adult life to advocating for her daughter Cathy, her friend Carly and all people with special needs. She belonged to Pineland Parents and Friends and was chair of the group. She has spent countless hours on the phone counseling parents regarding services and care for members of their families with special needs. We extend our appreciation to Mrs. Chafin for her dedication to the citizens of this State and congratulate her on her receiving this award; (HLS 798)

Andrea Blanchette, of Hodgdon, who has earned the distinction of being named Salutatorian of the 2005 graduating class at Hodgdon High School. Ms. Blanchette is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Dollars for Scholars. She has been an active member in many of the school's clubs and has received numerous academic awards. We extend our congratulations to Andrea on this accomplishment and wish her well as she goes on to the University of Southern Maine to study education; (HLS 799)

Daniel Ballanger, of Bancroft, who has earned the distinction of being named Third Honor Essayist of the 2005 graduating class at Hodgdon High School. Mr. Ballanger is a member of the National Honor Society, the Maine Writer's and Publisher's Alliance and the Maine Forest Service Hotshot. He has been awarded the Bausch and Lomb Science Award. We extend our congratulations to Daniel on this accomplishment and wish him well as he goes on to the University of Maine at Presque Isle to study criminal justice; (HLS 800)

Dorothy Ann Robertson, of New Limerick, who has earned the distinction of being named Valedictorian of the 2005 graduating class at Hodgdon High School. Ms. Robertson is President of the National Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Society of Women Engineers Award. She has participated on the intramural volleyball team for 4 years and is a member of the drama club. We extend our congratulations to Dorothy on this accomplishment and wish her well as she goes on to Cazenovia College to study business management with a specialization in equine management; (HLS 801)

Elizabeth Russell, of Linneus, who has earned the distinction of being named First Honor Essayist of the 2005 graduating class at Hodgdon High School. Ms. Russell is a member of the National Honor Society and is the recipient of numerous academic awards. She has performed with a number of chorus groups and has regularly sung the National Anthem for school events. We extend our congratulations to Elizabeth on this accomplishment and wish her well as she goes on to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy to major in pharmacology; (HLS 802)
