Pictorial trade wraps. 240 pp. Short bibliography. Drawings by Gendler. Signed & dated by Gendler shortly after publication. 1206. Genn, Robert; Judi Birnberg and Lorna MacPhee. ROBERT GENN LOVE LETTERS TO ART (Signed). Vancouver: Studio Beckett Publications, 2014. First Edition. Book. 2nd printing, 2014, of first edition, with updates in Acknowledgments. Very fine, mint condition hardbound, 10 ¼" x 12 ¼", in equally fine dust jacket. Pagination: xviii, 133. Extensively illustrated in color by the artist & with descriptive text. Mr. Genn passed away in May of last year. This second printing, with revised Acknowledgments pages, was privately published by Genn early in that year. Slightly misleading is that the copyright page refers to the 2008 First Printing, but does not mention that this is the second printing. In terms of preference as to value, first printing vs. second printing in this case is rather subjective. Of course a signed copy makes a big difference. It appears that, production-wise, there is little difference in paper, endpaper color, binding, and dust jacket between the two printings. The signature of Mr. Glenn is authentic. Each buyer will be given provenance information upon request. Robert Genn was a prolific landscape and perhaps more than occasional portrait artist whose Canadian work (he lived in British Columbia) and style has been compared favorably to the Group of Seven. He traveled extensively, and the book has samples of his work well beyond Canada. Very fine in very fine dj. Genn's landscapes of wild sea shores, mountains, inland lakes, forests and forest waterfalls, and other topics are stunning with a bright, dramatic palette, in this seller's humble opinion. His originals are much sought. If the buyer/collector owns an original, or a limited edition print, this signed copy of his Genn's book is a must. It is a wonderful art book for the fine book collector, as well. (#SHEL850) $150.00
