1128. Frazee, Minnesota. PHOTOGRAPH, Albumen (1880s?). Photographic Image. Not a book. Circa 1880s Frazee, Minnesota cabinet card, image 3 7/8" x 4 5/8". Albumen. Set on mat in side a "log" type frame. No glass over the photo/mat. Not photographer identified. We identify this photo as highly likely of Frazee, MN, because the tall building on the right side has R. L. Frazee written on the side. It is readable only with a magnifier. One internet site says of R. L. Frazee, "The Honorary Randolph L. Frazee, born July 3. 1841 in Ohio came to Minnesota in 1866. In1868 he moved from St. Cloud to Otter Tail City, and built a sawmill in 1872 where New York Mills is now. This was first called Frazee's Mills. In the fall of 1872, he bought the Campbell-Chilton mill at Frazee, and a year later had added a flourmill in northern Minnesota. These mills burned October 14, 1889. Mr. Frazee sold all his mill property in 1890 to A. H. Wilcox, who repaired the dam, rebuilding the sawmill on the old foundation the same year, and operating it until January 1897, when he sold to the Commonwealth Lumber Company." It is possible that this photo is of another town where R. L. had a mill, but we're betting on Frazee. You Minnesotans will know. Anyway, a nice, vintage photo! ca 1885 (#SHEL287) $55.77
