There is some interesting information on this man on the internet, assuming it is the Hoge of Idaho. The beautiful mountain on the front cover looks all the world like Mt. Rainer, but index says it is "Wa-pa-ha-sha, or Cap of Papasha, now Sugar Loaf", which is a rocky pinnacle overlooking Winona. On the front cover is a 1/4" spot; barest trace of wear to cover corners. Original pictorial gilt-stamped cloth. 529pp + 32pp of publisher's ads. Illustrated with engravings. Folding map, "Sketch Map Showing Route of Richd J. Bush During His Travels & Explorations North Eastern Asia" (which included trailing end of Aleutian chain). Binder's label, "Bound by W. Bone & Son Fleet St. London". Bush was to make preliminary surveys for the Russo - American telegraph line. The plan which sent this expedition off was ultimately to lay a line between San Francisco & Moscow, via Siberia. This copy in original cloth has been rebacked under the original spine, with new endpapers matching the originals. This copy was never read, as the signatures have not been cut at the top. The covers are worn at the corners. There is some darkening from old stain along the cover edges.
