Topics: black economic empowerment, the new labour regulations, capital gains tax, crime and the Minerals and Energy legislation.


Review of the 2002 South Africa / German Conference on Higher Education

(The date for this event as well as the theme, are being discussed with the South African University vice-chancellor’s Association)

This conference will aim at evaluating progress made since the 2002 South Africa/German Conference on Higher Education held in Berlin in 2002 as well as challenges faced by higher education institutions in South Africa.

Seminar in Celebration of Achievements of South African Women: June 2004


The Embassy will host a Gender conference in South Africa as a follow-up to the South African / German Women in Dialogue hosted by the Embassy in April 2002. The delegation from Germany will consist of Members of Parliament, business, NGOs, Academics, Journalists and other civil organisations active in the gender field. The German delegates are expected to share experiences and exchange views with their South African counterparts.

South Africa Youth Exchange: October 2004


The Embassy intends to invite a child from each of South Africa's nine provinces. These would be children born in 1994, who would be turning 10 years in 2004. The aim of bringing these children to Germany would symbolise our ten years of democracy. During their stay in Berlin, they will visit schools and share their experiences of democracy with their German counterparts.

South Africa Weeks


South Africa Weeks are held from time to time in order to promote consciousness of South Africa. These weeks are an excellent means of promoting South African products and the country itself as an investment and tourist destination. Much of the expenses incurred in this respect are borne by participating businesses and sponsors.

Discussing possibility with South African Tourism to participate in the “CMT” tourism Fair.


Freedom Day: April 2004

Exhibition (Wire Art Project): The mission is co-operating with local South African and German artists as well as the Volkekunde Museum to launch a unique wire art project. The wiring system of the Consul General’s Residence is being refurbished and the tons of redundant old copper wire are being donated to the project "consortium". The Consulate General is planning to develop a "walk-through" wire art exhibition where South African artists and crafts people will cooperate with their German counterparts to create panels of wire art. The idea is to launch the project during the 2004 national day function in Munich after which the project will be taken to other German cities. This project will rely on sponsorships.

To be dedicated to young people in South Africa and Switzerland. This will be the most lively month and will include some of the following activities in French, German and Italian Cantons:

Performance by South African artists. The most famous of these is the Montreaux Jazz Festival. Others include festivals in Nyon, Gurten, Lugano, Gstaad and Lucerne.

This event will also offer us an opportunity to expose the talent in South Africa in this performing arts discipline


Women’s Day and Women’s Month: August 2004

Dedicated to female artists to celebrate the progress made in promoting gender equality in politics, the arts, business, education and other fields such as IT etc.

A number of events depicting the richness of South Africa’s cultural heritage
