Breakfast at hotel is included as is Dinner both nights. Lunch is on own as we will be scattered.

Friday 6/1

Breakfast at hotel.

Bus will pick us up with luggage at the Hampton Inn Dearborn as we will be staying at a different hotel tonight.

First we will visit the Motown Museum then lunch and on to the Ford Piquette Ave plant where Model T’s were first produced.

We will then have an “action adventure” and dinner at a great place. (all included in trip)

We will be staying at Hilton Hotel Ft. Shelby which is a recently refurbished, vintage luxury hotel. Every room is a two-room suite.

Saturday 6/2

Breakfast will be included either in the hotel or nearby.

Everyone will have a 2-day pass with reserved Grand Stand Seating to the Detroit Grand Prix. There is an Indy car point’s race on both Saturday and Sunday. Also there is a Trans Am race presented by Pirelli, a Speed Energy stadium super truck race, all both Saturday and Sunday and an IMSA Sports car race on Saturday only. Further, there are fan experiences, concerts, an art fair, driver autograph sessions, paddock access plus other things to do on Belle Isle. With the reserved seating, you should be able to see much of the action and still have a seat for the big races you want to see. Non-hosted lunch as we will again, be scattered.

If some of the group chooses not to attend both days of racing, we have some alternative activities. A little shopping is in order! We will shuttle the non-racers to the Eastern Market which appears to be a giant outdoor/indoor market that has rave reviews. From there you will have a non-hosted lunch and then off to the Detroit Institute of the Arts which is rated the #1 of 57 attractions in Detroit. We will try to set up a docent-led tour. The museum closes at 5 pm so we will shuttle back to a “watering hole” to wait for the rest of the group to catch up from the races. Their shuttle will drop them off a couple of blocks away and then we will walk another couple of blocks to a great dinner. Bring your walking shoes as we will walk a short distance back to the hotel after dinner.

Sunday 6/3

I would guess that all would attend this day of racing. However, if you choose not to, there will be plenty of unplanned things to do to and see in Detroit. Please let us know if you are not going to attend any of the racing so we won’t buy you a ticket.

Monday 6/4

We will meet our bus driver again and head to Hickory Corners Michigan, a 2 hour and 15 minute drive. For this day and most of the rest, we will be visiting the Gilmore Museum and all of its associated “partner” museums. The Gilmore itself is home to over 400 vehicles. The partner museums include the Classic Car Club of America museum of true classics (said to have a great mascot collection), Pierce Arrow Museum, Franklin Collection, Model A Ford Museum, Cadillac – LaSalle Club Museum and the Lincoln Motor Car Heritage Museum among others. The museum closes at 5 pm so we will head to nearby Kalamazoo to stay at the nicest hotel in town, the Hotel Radisson Tower with big hotel amenities and 340 rooms.

We will have lunch at your leisure on site at The Blue Moon Diner, which is an actual diner moved to the Gilmore. (included in the trip). We will walk to a dinner in downtown Kalamazoo.

Tuesday 6/5

Breakfast near the hotel and then back to the Gilmore to pick-up where you left off. Lunch again at the Blue Moon Diner (included again)

Wrap up and at 2:30 we will head back to our Hampton Inn Dearborn home for a rest and then dinner. You will need a rest because we are going to have another experience that you will enjoy. Please wear something a step up from jeans but a jacket is not required. We should have you home by 11:30 pm.

Wednesday 6/6

A great closing day. We will leave a little later from the hotel (since you got to bed late!) and head to the GM Heritage Museum in Sterling Heights Michigan, near Detroit. We will stop on the way from GM for lunch then off to the Detroit History Museum which as you would expect, has a lot of displays about the automobile industry.

Dinner nearby our Dearborn Hotel

Thursday 6/7-Fly home (airfare not included in trip price)
