Apple-featured Watchup Reinvents News Video, Launches Android App At NAB

Stanford Startup Bets On Binge-Watching For News Junkies
Las Vegas, NV, April 7, 2014 — Video news app Watchup announced at NAB Show today the launch on Google Play of its personalized newscast experience and a major redesign of its iPad app with the third generation of its open beta.
Featured in the iPad AppStore, Watchup: Your Daily Newscast, enables Android tablet users to unleash the power of video journalism with a continuous stream of news videos from The Washington Post's Post TV, PBS Newshour and dozens of other news outlets.
“With Watchup 3.0, we are reinventing news watching with our multi-channel, personalized approach and now taking it to Android tablet users,” said 34-year-old CEO Adriano Farano.

Video news curation

Users select their areas of interest, pick a time of the day they want their newscast to be delivered and Watchup seamlessly assembles their personalized newscast out of the world's most trusted news channels.
Personalization

Incubated at Stanford University's StartX accelerator, Watchup offers a uniquely personalized experience for video news content. Users can give feedback, a thumb up or down, to any video to fine tune their personal newscast. Over time, Watchup 3.0 gets smarter and tailors the videos it offers to each individual user.

Lasagna design

Based in Silicon Valley but designed in Italy, Watchup organizes video and text information around retractable layers. When needing more context, by dragging a panel on the right, users can read print articles that are related to the video they are watching, all while watching it.

Binge watching for news junkies

Watchup 3.0 introduces binge watching for news junkies. By opening the left panel, users can select any channel or content category and watch an entire set of clips that continuously play on iPad and Android tablets.

Pricing and Availability

Watchup 3.0 is free and available in the News category of the Google Play Store and the iPad App Store starting Monday, April 7th at 3:50 Pacific time.
Launch at NAB Show on Monday, April 7

Named one of the top startups disrupting the video industry by the National Association of Broadcasters, Watchup launches the 3.0 version of its open beta video news app at the Las Vegas Convention Center Show.

Born in Italy, Farano is a former journalist and Knight Fellow at Stanford. His Neapolitan roots inspire Watchup’s clean design and multi-layered approach. You can find him explaining lasagna design onstage at 3:50pm, Monday April 7th in the Central Hall’s Sprockit Hub, C2455. Farano will also co-host The Future of News panel Wednesday April 9th, 11:00 am also in C2455.
