AIM: Cylinder Boring & Honing

Objective: After completion of this experiment student will be able to know.

DESCRIPTION:

CYLINDER BORING:

Cylinders should be measured across the engine (perpendicular to the crankshaft of us), where the greatest wear occurs. Most wear will be found just below the ridge, and the least amount ar will occur below the lowest ring travel. The cylinder should be checked for out-of-round and taper. Most cylinders are serviceable if:

Maximum of 0.003 inch out-of-round

No more than 0.005 inch taper

Have no deep scratches in the cylinder wall
The most effective way to correct excessive cylinder out-of-round, taper, or scoring is to rebore the cylinder. The rebored cylinder requires the use of a new oversize piston.
