From 1975, he was presented the Casey Murphy Golden Glove Award for his outstanding play in Beacon.
He was the starting right fielder for the Poughkeepsie Brewers from 1976-1978 and 1980, playing in the Eastern Seaboard League. The Brewers were State Champions in those seasons and in 1978 were Regional Champions, traveling to Springfield, Missouri to compete in the National Tournament.
In 1979, Don played for the Beacon Light Team which was District Champs and finished second in the Regionals.
He again played in Poughkeepsie in 1981, 1982 and 1984-1987, playing on five more State Championship Teams and another Mid-Atlantic Championship.
Overall, Don batted .290 in the regular season and .310 in post-season play against great pitchers such as Ty Stofflett and Owen "The Fog" Wohlford.
