For Immediate Release
ASUS Launches the World’s Fastest Internal CD-RW Drive

The CRW-5232AS delivers fastest 52X CD-Write/32X CD-ReWrite/52X CD-ROM

Taipei, Taiwan, October 27, 2003 -- ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS), a worldwide leader of high-performance optical drives, today announced the ASUS CRW-5232AS, the only CD-RW drive on the market capable of delivering 52X write and 32X rewrite. With the increasing popularity of mini-barebones, the CRW-5232AS implemented a single-chip design that combines DSP & RF AMP and successfully reduced its size and weight, which should decrease shipment costs significantly.

The CRW-5232AS incorporated innovative technologies including ASUS FlextraLink™, FlextraSpeed™, DDSS II and CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) writing strategy for a seamless fusion of flexibility, high-quality recording and reliable operation. FlextraLink™ prevents buffer underrun problems and eliminates the creation of unusable discs, while FlextraSpeed™ enhances accuracy and reliability when writing and rewriting across a broad range of certified media. Throughout the recording process, FlextraLink™ consistently keeps track of the data buffer status, whereas FlextraSpeed™ continously monitors the recording media and sets the most effective writing speed to ensure top-quality recording. Both ASUS proprietary technologies occupy minimal system resources, allowing the PC to remain fully operational and available for other applications even during the recording process.

The CRW-5232AS also features the patented DDSS II technology, an enhanced follow-up of the first-generation Double Dynamic Suspension System. The DDSS technology is designed to minimize vibration and noise caused by high-revolution spindle motors. By stabilizing the pick-up head both horizontally and vertically, the CRW-5232SA enables more precise tracking for stable recording.

The ASUS CRW-5232AS utilizes CAV writing strategy to significantly shorten recording time and achieve higher average recording speed, compared to other high-speed CD-RW drives on the market.

The ASUS CRW-5232AS is available for shipment by the end of October, and a black edition will be ready in the mid of November as well. For additional information about ASUS optical storage devices or other quality products, please visit the company homepage at http://www.asus.com.
