Base: An Lanntair, Stornoway

Contract: Fixed term, eight weeks, starting on w/c 3rd July 2017
Introduction
This is a fabulous opportunity for a motivated young person to gain invaluable experience in the creative and arts industries. This summer placement based at An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway will be focused on supporting the arts administration, documentation and evaluation of An Lanntair’s Artist Support Programme, the Creative Place Awards Bealach programme, the Purvai Festival of South Asian Art and Culture and An Lanntair’s wider education and outreach programmes.
About An Lanntair
An Lanntair is a multi arts venue – at one and the same time a contemporary art gallery, a theatre, a cinema, a concert hall, a platform for poetry and literature, a studio – every space is stretched to showcase the arts in multiple forms. Encompassing it all, we pride ourselves in presenting an inspirational programme of excellence that engages and illuminates its audiences. Our work stretches across a national and indeed international platform, yet our distinctiveness lies in being ‘of the place’, rooted in who we are, and the creativity of Gaelic and the Outer Hebrides takes centre stage. In October 2005, following a ten year campaign, our magnificent, nationally significant new arts centre on the Stornoway waterfront was opened. Our facility includes a 220 seat auditorium, gallery space, office space, shop, bar and restaurant facilities. The building was one of the largest ever arts developments in the Highlands and Islands and is of key strategic importance nationally for the arts and culture of the Outer Hebrides.
About this role
We will be looking for an enthusiastic and creative young person, ideally with some skills in graphic design, editing, film, photography and administration.  The aim of the placement will be to attend and document in a creative way the summer programme of events and activities at An Lanntair.  So, for example all of our events and activities around our Artist Support Programme, our Purvai Festival of South Asian Art and Culture events, our visual arts exhibitions, our exhibition at Museum nan Eilean of the Colin Mackenzie Collection and the Hebridean Celtic Festival Gaelic stage events.
The key tasks will be to:

  • Visit and document events and projects

  • Write blog entries

  • Undertake filming and photography of events and activities

  • Editing of film and content

  • A range of other administrative tasks

Along with the opportunity to experience working on these projects, the successful young person will also receive training and plenty of other opportunities to develop their own skills and experience. It is an exciting chance for any ambitious young person to really kick off their career in the creative industries.
