Issaquah, Wash. – Village Theatre Village Originals in association with Seattle Theatre Group (STG) present Love is Love, a new musical conceived and directed by Martin Charnin in a developmental production at The Moore Theatre, November 21-22, 2006.
It’s a “many splendored thing” and it means “never having to say you’re sorry” and “it’s a chemical reaction” and “a tyrant sparing none,” and with it, one “can live even without happiness” and so on and so on and so on. For centuries, poets, authors, philosophers, scientists, and just plain everyday folks have tried to define love—or imagine it in all of its magnificent and confusing configurations. Three years ago, the Sunday Style Section of the venerable The New York Times introduced a column titled “Modern Love” which for over 150 weeks has published gloriously written pieces that confront that elusive feeling.

Inspired by the popular column, Love is Love is a theatrical event utilizing eight of the “Modern Love” columns and seven songs by Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winner Martin Charnin (whose musical Annie just became the 17th longest running musical in Broadway history) and talented Seattle composer Richard Gray.
Love is Love features Shelly Burch, Ann Evans, Charity Parenzini, and Maggie Stenson, four of the West Coast’s most gifted female singing-actresses, portraying 12 uniquely different women telling their own stories…rich with language, feeling, and insight. Love is Love may not answer the “what is it,” but it will open your heart and mind to the fact that “tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.”
Love is Love will be directed by Martin Charnin. Music and lyrics are by Rich Gray and Martin Charnin, with musical direction by Dwight Beckmeyer; set design by Martin Charnin; and technical production by Bryan Layton. For more information or to schedule an interview, please contact Jacquelyn Rardin at (425) 392-1942 x124 or Virgina Piper at (206) 467-5510 x1164.
