ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN ENVIRONMENTAL RISK FACTORS
Excavation and transportation works in construction activities are the main factors causing environmental and social risks. Information about excavation and transportation are given under the following headings. Recommendations to manage and avoid the risk factors are given in other sections.
Excavation
Excavation rates depending on the ground type and excavation type for the plants to be newly constructed are given in Table 3 .3.

Transportation
Transportation operations may be taken on two basis. Firstly, transportation of material from other cities to Elbistan and secondly, transportation of material brought to Elbistan from temporary storage area to the construction site. Possibilities within the closer areas will be primarily evaluated during the process of material supply and transfer. Prior supply alternatives for these materials are stated below.

Sand and gravel: To be provided from Municipality Stone & Sand Quarry at 7 km away.

Stone: To be brought from the Municipality Stone Quarry at 7 km away.

Cement: To be brought from the Gaziantep Cement Factory 245 km away from Elbistan.

Reinforced Concrete Steel: To be provided from İskenderun Iron and Steel Co. 450 km away from Elbistan.

PVC Pipe: To be provided from Elazığ Plastic Pipe Factory 220 km away from Elbistan.

HDPE Pipe: To be provided from Kayseri Akın Plastic Pipe Factory 290 km away from Elbistan.

Brick: To be provided from Kahramanmaraş Brick Factory 165 km away from Elbistan.

Steel Pipe: To be brought from the Istanbul Pendik Ümran Pipe Factory 1040 km away from Elbistan.
All the companies supplying materials have valid licences and permits (including environmental permits where necessary)
In Elbistan, materials will be carried to regions where new reservoirs, pumping station, rising mains and networks lines shown in Figure 2 .4 are located. Effects of transportation in Elbistan will be determining for the urban life. Measures and improvement suggestions about possible impacts in transportation operations are given in the following sections.
