SIR THE BAPTIST BRINGS “SAINT OR SINNER” TO LIFE
SELF-PROCLAIMED HIP HOP CHAPLAIN RELEASES LONG AWAITED FULL-LENGTH PROJECT
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE FEATURED APPEARANCES FROM BRANDY, KILLER MIKE, MICHELLE WILLIAMS, DC YOUNG FLY AND MORE
“SAINT OR SINNER” AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE TODAY
Atlantic Records recording artist Sir The Baptist has announced the release of his eagerly awaited new full-length project. “SAINT OR SINNER” arrives everywhere today and is available for streaming here: https://atlanti.cr/saintorsinner.
Written and produced by Sir himself, “SAINT OR SINNER” is a milestone of work that touches upon both spirituality and the streets to create a powerful soundtrack for contemporary America. The groundbreaking project is highlighted by the Chicago-based artist’s breakthrough hit single, “Raise Hell (Feat. Killer Mike and ChurchPpl),” as well as the thrilling activist anthem, “What We Got (Feat. Donald Lawrence and Co. & ChurchPpl).” In addition, “SAINT OR SINNER” includes featured appearances from such like-minded performers as Brandy, Keke Wyatt, Michelle Williams, DC Young Fly, Ray J, Jordan Mitchell, and The Deacons (see attached tracklisting).
Of the inspiration behind the album, Sir explains “SAINT OR SINNER embodies everything that’s been missing in Hip Hop over the last year. It’s the story of every genius, every legend. It’s The Real Hamilton. It’s a true testament of the struggles this industry brings and how quickly you can lose yourself if you’re not careful. I almost lost my life for this album.”
Sir The Baptist is currently heralding “SAINT OR SINNER” on his first-ever global tour. Presented by Lyft, “The Revival World Tour” includes headline shows, high profile events, and a diverse array of international festivals, including Eugene, OR’s Willamette Valley Music Festival (May 20th), Dover, DE’s Firefly Music Festival (June 16th), Chicago, IL’s Mamby On The Beach (June 25th), New Orleans, LA’s ESSENCE Festival (July 2nd), Paris, FR’s Afropunk Paris (July 15th-16th), Nice, FR’s Nice Jazz Festival (July 19th), San Sebastian, SP’s Heineken Jazzaldia (July 21st-23rd), and Raleigh, NC’s Hopscotch Music Festival (September 7th-10th). For updates and ticket information, please see sirthebaptist.com/#shows.
Born Sir William James Stokes in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood, Sir The Baptist took his love of music and inspiration from his preacher/social activist father and created a sound all his own, an individualistic amalgam of soul, hip hop, R&B, jazz, doo-wop, pop, and gospel he calls “church pub rap.” Sir captured a national audience first via his contribution to Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment’s “Familiar” (featured on 2015’s acclaimed “SURF”) and then through his own extraordinary releases including such tracks as “Wake Up (Ft, ChuchPeople),” hailed by VIBE as “a bold statement for social justice in America.”
Tracks like “Creflo ‘Almighty’ Dollar (Ft. Twista & ChuchPeople)” and “Raise Hell (Ft. ChuchPeople)” followed and fast proved a sensation, the latter hitting #1 on Spotify’s Viral 50 on its way to 3 million plays and counting. In addition, LA Weekly declared the “Raise Hell” companion video to be “a visual blitz on America’s racially divided state, cutting between imagery of Sir singing in a church setting and protests that have taken place across the country in response to police killings of black men. The song is a call for social change not just for black people but for all minorities.” “Raise Hell” and much more can be found now at Sir The Baptist’s official Spotify channel.
