| Providing tools and machinery apparatus: The function of Chevron is not confined within providing loan or forming village development organization. Furthermore, Chevron also dictates every active VDO for selecting proper recipients for providing tools and apparatus relevant to agricultural production. It is already prevalent that the mode of cultivation has changed significantly due to the expansion of wells of gas field. With producing knowledge regarding ongoing production system as archaic, chevron tries to compensate this decrease of land through modernizing the agricultural system. Modernization of agricultural production is nothing but the replacement of humankind by machine and cooperativeness by individualization and profit. Since the people living in the villages surrounded Bibiyana Gas field, were accustomed with traditional way of cultivation. This system of cultivation proved as inefficient in front of individualized tradition. Chevron, may be said, an active agent of westernization, industrialization, modernization and urbanization. They measure the efficiency and productiveness of anything measured on the basis of profit making ability. This philosophical ground parted relatives from cooperating in the production and destroyed the traditional mode of production. Now people live in a state of libido. Traditional forms of assistance have been snatched from the production system with providing sufficient cultural pertinence. In this condition, people have nothing except depends on the help of the patron. With a view to solve this problem, chevron started to provide tools and apparatus for the production. Tractor and various kinds of machinery tools are distributed among the selected VDO members on the condition of making repayment. In addition, productive seed also is being distributed by chevron among the member of the village development organization. Furthermore, the use of pesticides, fertilizer and insecticides are becoming appreciated and began to work as a sign of modern farmer. Thus, chevron subsidizes in the spheres of fertilizer also. Even, the tools for injecting pesticides also distributed and in some cases subsidized by chevron. Like other distribution process, this machinery distribution process is also afflicted by nepotism and liaison. Now, people are gradually getting accustomed to exploit the land as much they can. However, Chevron also has distributed smoke-free gas stove to the selected recipients. Initially, stove was provided without fees but it seemed that people were not taking care of the gift. Then, Chevron fixed 200 taka for each stove. The aim of taking taka in exchange of stove, according to Chevron’s official, was to raise a sense of ownership to the stove.
