James F. “Jim” Cash, 66, of Red House died March 17, 1999, at home after a long illness.
He was a native of Virginia, a retired electrician, a member of International Brotherhood of Electricial Workers and president of the Eleanor Lions Club. He was a member of the West Virginia Lions Club Sight Conservation Foundation, district chairman of the Lions Blind Ski Program and member of Nitro Moose Lodge and Riverside Baptist Church.
Surviving: wife, Mary Harper Cash; daughters, Angela Ogden of Amherst, Virginia and Debbie King of Red House; sons, James Cash Jr. of Radford, Virginia, Mark Cash of Inwood, Mack Burgess and Charles Harper, both of Red House, Leon Harper of Bancroft, and Boyd Harper of Nitro; foster daughter, Drema Rhodes of Nitro; sisters, Mary Sprouse of Amherst, Virginia and Ruth Floyd of Lynchburg, Virginia; brother, Cecil of Roanoke, Virginia; 16 grandchildren.
Service was held Saturday, March 20, 1999, at Riverside Baptist Church, Red House, with Pastor Michael Hanna and the Rev. Don Myers officiating. Burial was in Center Point Cemetery, Liberty. Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, was in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be sent to West Virginia Lions Sight Conservation Foundation Inc., 916 - 11th Avenue, Huntington WV 25701.

Mrs. Ruby CAUSBY, 48, died yesterday morning at Pulaski Hospital.

She is survived by two sons, Harold CAUSBY, Pulaski and J. D. CAUSBY of Cayce, S. C.; one daughter, Mrs. Willard LINEBERRY, Pulaski; two brothers, Jesse E. CLARK, Pulaski and Will CLARK, Hagerstown, Md.; one sister, Mrs. Emory THOMPSON, Pulaski.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p. m. from Strickler’s Chapel, conducted by the Rev. T. O. Dennis. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.



The body will remain at Strickler’s Funeral Home.

CECIL, Jason David, (JD), 71, of 3318 Lead Mine Road, Snowville, died Monday
morning, December 18, 2000, at his home. He was born November 4, 1929, in
Snowville, the son of the late James R. and Bertha Thornton Cecil. He served
in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan and later in the U.S. Air
Force in Texas. After his military service, Mr. Cecil worked for many years
for Greyhound of Roanoke while living in Salem. Later he farmed in the
Snowville area fulfilling his dream of living and working near his childhood
home. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Mr. Cecil attended the Valley
Christian Ministries of Snowville. Surviving are his wife of fifty years,
Louise Dunagan Cecil of Snowville; daughter, Debra Cecil Cobb and her
husband, Judge W. Allen Cobb, Jr., of Wilmington, N.C.; son, Michael David
Cecil of Roanoke; daughter, Linda Cecil Ward and her husband, Dr. John T.
Ward of Laurence Harbor, N.J.; three sisters and one brother, Anna Cecil
Justice and her husband, Rush of Pulaski, Robert B. Cecil and his wife,
Arlene of Christiansburg, Betty Cecil Blankenship of Pulaski, and Brenda
Cecil Edmonds and her husband, Roy of Snowville; and he had many nieces,
nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at
Stevens Funeral Home, 815 Randolph Avenue, Pulaski, on Wednesday, December
20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at
Stevens Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplain Joseph McAfee and the Rev. Curtis
Ratcliffe. Burial will follow at the Cecil's Chapel Cemetery, Cecil's Chapel
Road, Snowville. Memorials can be made to Carilion Hospice Services New
River Valley, 111 West Main Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The family
expresses many thanks to the Carilion Hospice nurses and the private duty
nurses who assisted in Mr. Cecil's care and comfort at his home.

CHAFFIN, Charles Draper Sr., 75, of Pulaski, Va., went to be with the Lord Monday, February 3, 2003. Born in Pulaski on November 13, 1927, he was the son of the late Hubert Kelly Chaffin and Alma Hall Chaffin. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia C. Haga. He was a retired Millwright Foreman of Hercules, Inc. at Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 32 years of service. A member of Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church since his youth, he served the Lord in many capacities including Elder and past Sunday School Superintendent. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Tiny Austin Chaffin of Pulaski; son, Charles Draper Chaffin, Jr. of Pulaski; daughters, Dianne C. Ratcliff and husband, Jerry of Charlottesville, Kelly C. Stovall and husband, Brian of Roanoke; grandchildren, Wendy R. Peery and husband, Paul, Amy R. Woolley and husband, Eric, Jonathan Scott Ratcliff, all of Charlottesville, Joshua B. Stovall, Samantha L. Stovall, Rebekah A. Stovall, all of Roanoke; brothers, James A. Chaffin and wife, Betty Jo of Pulaski, Kenneth E. Chaffin and wife, Murrell of Dublin; sisters, Hazel C. CHANDLER, Evelyn Palmer, 80, of Christiansburg, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2001 in the Kroontje Health Care Center, Blacksburg. The widow of the late Joseph A. Chandler, Jr., she was also preceded in death by a brother, Hampton Palmer and a sister, Effie Collins. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Steve Chandler, Pulaski, Gary and Renee Chandler, Joseph A., III and Sherry Chandler, all of Christiansburg; a daughter, Angela Myles, Christiansburg; sisters, Lois Helen "Tommie" Peregoy, Roanoke, Hazel Shelton, Salem; grandchildren, Todd Chandler, Vickie Johnson, Brian Chandler, Michelle Chandler, Jason Chandler and Joseph Andrew Chandler, IV; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Peregoy, Richmond, Ethel Phaup, Farmville and Helen Palmer, Christiansburg and numerous nieces and nephews. CHARLTON, Thelma Basham, 88, of the Kroontje Health Care Center, Blacksburg, departed this earth peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2001 at Montgomery Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Garland W. "Brown" Charlton and the daughter of the late B. H. and Olivia S. Basham of Pilot. She was a retired employee of Leggett and attended Pilot United Methodist Church and New River Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by sisters, Beaulah B. Brammer and Minnie B. Light, and a brother, Earl S. Basham. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Garland W. "Dubby", Jr. and Vickie M. Charlton of Christiansburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue C. and Michael E. Smith of Riner; a grandson, Brian E. Smith of Riner; a granddaughter, Sara B. Charlton of Christiansburg; sisters, Katherine B. Link of Roanoke and Mary B. Epperly of Floyd; brother, Arnold E. CLARK, William Michael, (Mike), 59, passed away Friday, March 28, 2003, in Palm Springs, California. He was born in Pulaski on February 18, 1944. He was predeceased by his father, William L. Clark. Clark retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service and was presently working as a civil service worker at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, California. He is survived by his wife and four children, Michael II, Casey, Corrine and Karen; and four grandchildren; his mother, Ms. Octavia Clark of Dublin; and sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Bobby Nash of Pulaski; two nephews, Rob Nash of Chesterfield, Va. and Chad Nash of Fredericksburg, Va.; niece, Lesley McCarthy of Bristow, Va.; and a very special uncle, Walter Sowers (Uncle Red) of Dublin; as well as other family members and friends. He will be buried with full military honors in the National Veterans Cemetery, Riverside, CA

Kathryn Elaine Woodrum Boor Clayton, 75, of Dublin, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Pulaski Community Hospital. She was a member of the Sears Retiree Group and a member of the Martha Washington Quilting Guild, both of Washington, Pa. Survivors include four daughters, Jerry Hetrick of Sharpsburg, Ga., Jakkie Lease of Ridgeley, W.Va., Carol "Mickey" Parker of Falls Church, Va.; Toni Bowman of Dublin; one son, Mosby Boor of Radford; two stepdaughters, Beverly Matesic of Pittsburgh, Pa., Bonnie Leech of Centerville, Va.; one stepson, Brad Clayton of Pittsburg, Pa.; three sisters, Carol Kirby and Jane Epperly, both of Dublin, Reba Emerson of Rio, Wis.; four brothers, Donald Woodrum of Ellerslie, Md., John Woodrum of Pulaski, Leo and Pete Woodrum, both of Radford; 14 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. CLEVINGER, Lorene Wright, (Allie), 75, of Abilene, Texas, died Sunday, December 9, 2001, in Abilene. She was a longtime resident of Pulaski, Virginia, and the wife of the late L. Earle Clevinger. She was born in Appalachia, Virginia on September 11, 1926, and was the third child of the late Alfonzo Wright and Maude Mae Dye Wright. She was also preceded in death by an older brother and sister and a younger brother. Mrs. Clevinger attended Appalachia High School where she was active in various school activities including being captain of the girl's basketball team. She attended Milligan College and later transferred to the Medical College of Virginia Pharmacy School where her older brother was enrolled in the Dental School. While at MCV, she met Earle Clevinger, and they were married a year later. The couple lived in several communities in Virginia where Mr. Clevinger worked at Tyler Drug and later became owner. In 1967, Mrs. Clevinger completed her education at Virginia Tech becoming a landscape architect. She designed the landscape for several homes in the area as well as the plants and shrubs for the town library. She later taught secondary school in Hillsville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pulaski. She was active in several local organizations including the Eastern Star and the Garden Club. Through the years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband and working in the garden. Surviving is a daughter, Donna Lynn Clevinger, Ph.D., a university professor and administrator in Texas. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski with Rev. Don Sizemore officiating. Visiting will be after the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the local Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Oley Solomon; and her husband, Paris L. Caldwell, Sr. Surviving are her husband, Henry Cochran, Fairlawn; a brother and sister-in-law, Romey and Annie Solomon, Parrott; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paris "Leonard" and Doris Caldwell, Jr., Dublin, Roscoe and Elva Caldwell, Salem; a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Charlie Spradlin, Fairlawn; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, seven stepchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2001, at the Parrott Church of God with the Rev. Eddie Dalton and the Rev. Maude Cherry officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.
