COOPER, FREDA ATKINSON, 88, of Shawsville, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003 at her home. She was born November 4, 1914, the daughter of the late Robert and Goldie Atkinson. A graduate of Radford College and Holmes Bible College, she was a retired teacher and librarian at Shawsville High School and was a member of the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Wise E. Cooper, she is survived by her daughter Ruth Angela Cooper, Roanoke; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Willis, Pulaski, Lois and Ed Henson, Shawsville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Maurice and Helen Atkinson, Radford, Rev. Cline and Frances Atkinson, Narrows, Billy and Priscilla Atkinson, Shawsville. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 Monday evening at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Edward Richardson and Rev. Steve Willis with interment to follow in Piedmont Cemetery, Shawsville. The Cooper family is being served by Horne Funeral & Cremation Service, Christiansburg, Va. (382-2612)

Osceola Harper Covey, age 88 of Dublin, Va. died Sunday morning April 27, 2003 in Highland Ridge Rehabilitation Center. Born March 9, 1915 in Baltimore, MD, and resided in Frederick County, MD for many years. She was the daughter of the late Sylvia Cockey Harper and Charles L. Harper. She a member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church, and was the past Worthy Matron of the Towson, MD Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Raymond E. Covey, Sr. of Dublin: two sons; Raymond E. Covey, Jr. of Hagerstown, MD, and Leeman Harper Covey and his wife Dr. Patsy Covey of Mobile, AL. Also survived by one grandson Heath Covey and his wife Michelle of Virginia Beach, Va., and one great grandson Spenser Covey also of Virginia Beach, Va. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Mt. View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visiting will be Tuesday anytime after 4 P.M. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Cox and one sister, Sylvia Trail, also preceded him in death. Surviving are: his wife, Sybol Ewing Quesenberry Cox, Snowville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Lee and Jean O’Dell Cox, Snowville, Zane and Peggy Mayberry Cox, Fairlawn; sisters, Edith O’Dell, Fairfax, Loretta Hedge, Beckley, W. Va., Mildred Hall, Snowville; grandchildren, Jodi Denise Winter and Greg, Manhattan, Kan., Jason Lee Cox and Alison, Snowville, Cheryl Alice Cox, Albany, N. Y.; host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Elder Jay Harris officiating. Interment will follow at the Page Cemetery, Snowville. Mrs. Ella P. COX, 71, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William FINCH of Pulaski county, died Saturday at her home in Radford.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Arch WILSON, and one granddaughter Mrs. Lawrence LONG, of Radford; one brother Homer FINCH, of Snowville; and four step children Charles and William COX, and Mrs. Dewey SUTPHIN of Radford; Mrs. Shirley HUFFORD of Pulaski.
Funeral service were conducted yesterday at Severs funeral home, of Radford, with the Rev. W. L. Newman in charge. Interment was in West View cemetery, of Radford.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Davis Cox, Pulaski; one son, William Edward Cox, Pulaski; two daughters, Juanita and Wilma; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Cox; four sisters, Mrs. Clarence Ward, Mrs. Joe Draper, Mrs. Clarence Millirons and Mrs. Alvin Davis; five brothers, Howard, Andrew, Mauyer, Calvin and Arnold Cox, all of Pulaski.

COX, Clara Bales, (Ruby), 90, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and formerly of Pulaski, passed away Friday, March 21, 2003 at Parthenon Healthcare Center, Ft. Walton Beach. She was born June 5, 1912 in Atkins, Va., to the late James Elbert Bales and Lelia Mae Crigger Bales. Her husband, John H. Cox (died in 1992) and two sisters and three brothers also precede her in death. She had been residing in Ft. Walton Beach area since 1992 when she moved from Pulaski to be near her family. During her working years, she was employed by the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, and she also worked for Burlington Industries, Dublin and the Virginia Maid Hosiery Mill, Pulaski. She was of Methodist faith. She enjoyed working in her yard with flowers and gardening. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be missed by her family and those that knew and loved her. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Alene and Melvin Odum of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; brother, Vernon Bales of Virginia; sister, Frances Stowers of Bland; one grandchild, Vickie Szarek of North Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Joseph Szarek of North Carolina. A Graveside funeral service will be conducted Friday, 2 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens with Pastor James Weaver officiating, where interment will follow. Pallbearers will be members of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. Floral tributes will be appreciated or for those that so desire may make a memorial contribution to the charity of their choice in her memory. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski and Little Chapel Funeral Home of Ft. Walton Beach are handling the arrangements for the family.

CRAWFORD, Charles S., (Charlie), 88, a 55 year resident of Pulaski, died
Thursday, March 8, 2001. He was born in Pittsboro, Ind. on April 7, 1912 and
was the son of the late John Thomas Crawford and Anna Schmidt Crawford. Mr.
Crawford graduated from the Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis,
Ind. During and after high school, Charlie was a member of the Indianapolis
Newsboy Band and played in local jazz bands. He had a 43 year career with
Burroughs Corp. (Unisys) and retired at age 65. After retirement, Charlie
and his wife, Betty, fulfilled their life-long dream and traveled throughout
the country and to Alaska and Hawaii. Charlie was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church, Pulaski and served as a Church Elder and was a long
time member of the church choir. He was an assistant scout master of Troop
249 having spent many summers at Camp Powhatan with the troop. For 19 years
after retirement, Charlie and Betty split their time between Pulaski and
Lakeland, Fla. In Lakeland they lived at Sanlan Ranch Campground and became
involved in many local community activities. He was an associate member of
the Presbyterian Chapel in the Grove in Lakeland and sang in the church
choir. Mr. Crawford was a lifetime member of the Masons. Surviving are his
wife of 64 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Hancock Crawford of Pulaski; daughter,
Norma A. Crawford Conner of Lakeland, Fla.; sons, Charles S. Crawford of
Fallbrook, Calif., John W. "Bill" Crawford of Beverly Hills, Mich.; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
Sunday at 2 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski with the Rev.
David Coffey, Jr. and the Rev. Jerry Conner officiating. Burial will follow
in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Saturday evening
from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive from 6 to 8 p.m. In
lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Carilion
Hospice Services of the New River Valley, 707 Randolph Street-Suite 251,
Radford, Va. 24141 or to the Randolph House, 921 Randolph Avenue, Pulaski,

and Roxie Johnston Stafford. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Robert Alvin Creech, Jr. Mrs. Creech was a member of the
First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, Va. She is survived by two
sons, Robert A. Creech of Chicago, Ill. and Stephen P. and Cherry Creech of
Virginia Beach; one sister, Frances M. Stafford of Christiansburg and one
sister-in-law, Stella Stafford of Salem. Graveside funeral services will be
conducted Thursday, June 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Birchlawn Burial Park,
