Audience Profile: Specific facts and figures for the audience profile of college basketball can be found on page 20 of this sponsorship proposal. Overall, however, there are two statistics that stand out the most. First off, there are a much higher percentage of males who are both loyal and avid fans of NCAA basketball. The second statistic relates to household income of college basketball fans. The data shows that income does not have a very large impact, if any at all, upon who is and who is not a fan of college basketball.
Venue Information: Overall, this is the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 60th postseason tournament. Each and every year the league is searching for ways to improve the experience for both schools and fans alike. Located in the heart of ACC country, the Greensboro Coliseum is the ideal location for this yearly postseason tournament. The Coliseum has hosted the event 23 times throughout the conference’s history. This means the arena and its staff members are very familiar with the production and operations of the event from start to finish. The Coliseum also hosts an average of 850 events annually, making the staff very experienced. Other venues, such as the Georgia Dome, have the capacity for more fans, but no other location offers the history that the Greensboro Coliseum does. In 23 combined tournaments, the Coliseum has attracted 1,972,512 fans.
Venue Assets and Benefits: Built in 1959, the Coliseum has a maximum capacity of 23,500 fans, making it a very suitable arena for college basketball. Although some other locations may have larger capacities, the Coliseum allows for a large amount of fans as well as the feeling of being in a smaller venue. In 2011, the last time the tournament was held in Greensboro, each session saw a sellout crowd. Greensboro is also located in the heart of ACC country. The league was formed in downtown Greensboro and its history cannot be recounted without multiple mentions of this North Carolina city. One of the newest and interesting assets that the venue has is the ACC Hall of Champions. This museum, opened in 2011, has multiple exhibits designed for kids as well as adults to both test and teach the history of the ACC to its visitors. The museum is 8,100 square feet and features many multi-media displays with league highlights as well as life-sized mascots of every ACC member. There is also an interactive portion of the museum that allows patrons to challenge one another in ACC trivia games. The Coliseum Complex is also home to “The White Oak Amphitheatre” and “The Terrace”. These are both areas that host events of their own, but provide places for fans to enjoy the outdoors while waiting between games or tournament sessions.
