EDUCATIONAL AIM

The course aims to introduce students to the economic analysis of industries characterised by natural monopolies (energy, telcom, transports and water services) and is focused on privatision and liberalisation of public utilities. Lectures are devoted to the microeconomic analysis of regulation both with perfect and imperfect information, with a lot of examples related to the recent italian experience. Some attention is reserved in the last part of the course to the regulatory mechanisms adopted in practice by regulatory authorities. Liberalisation issues and regulatory mechanisms applied in the natural gas sector will then be considered
