The Center For Student Leadership (CSL)


The Center for Student Leadership (CSL) coordinates programs and fosters academic/

student success partnerships that work to identify, develop and sustain the leadership of stu- dents and graduates of Kennesaw State University. The CSL focuses on providing students resources, training and programs that enhance their leadership skills and abilities. The CSL offers many opportunities to get involved including the LINK programs (Emerge, Ascend & Leads), Presidential Leaders, the Northwest Crescent Leadership Alliance, Middle School Mentoring, Peer Leading and Peer Advising, the Arts Advocacy Group, and the CSL Research Fellows program. The CSL also partners with Sports & Recreation to provide programming for Nature Bound, KSU's experiential outdoor program. The CSL Philosophy: Leadership is a lifestyle. It is a reflective and purposeful process, grounded in congruence, driven by collaborative relationships, moving towards positive change.

Student Success Services


The Student Success Services Center, located on the second floor of Kennesaw Hall,

Room 2401, is a comprehensive service center where you can obtain help with educational, career and personal concerns from a trained staff of counselors, specialists and professional advisors. Such assistance supports the University's academic programs by offering resources that facilitate your orientation to the University, contribute to personal development, enhance academic success and help you with career planning. Special activities and professional staff are available for all students. Students are invited to come to the center, visit www.kennesaw. edu/studentsuccess, or phone Student Success Services at 7/423-6600 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Academic Advising


The Kennesaw State University Academic Advising Program is designed to offer students

accurate information regarding degree programs and course selection. It also provides an opportunity for students to meet with campus personnel to assist with their adjustment to the University. Advisors serve as referral agents and utilize all the resources of the University to help students with adjustment.

First Year & Undeclared Advising Services, 678-797-2860

First-Year and Undeclared Advising Services


Advising services (678-797-2860, Kennesaw Hall, Room 1304) are for all First-Year

Students, Undeclared/Exploratory Students, and Learning Support Program Students. Our

program is designed to help these students:

(1) With questions about the university

(2) Understand the University-Wide Degree Requirements

(3) Identify General Education (Core) courses for registration

(4) Adjust to Kennesaw State University

(5) Connect with the academic department of their major.

Counseling Services


Counseling & Psychological Services Center (CPS) offers an array of services aimed at

helping KSU students be successful both in and out of the classroom. We offer short-term personal counseling, group counseling, career counseling, crisis intervention, workshops and educational programming, referral services, and consultation for members of the KSU community. The types of groups and workshops vary from semester to semester, so be sure to check out our website for current offerings. CPS is also the home of the Task Force for Interpersonal Violence, a multidisciplinary team of campus representatives which collaborate to create a safe campus environment.

Common reasons students come to CPS are:

  • Academic concerns about time management, test anxiety or study skills

  • Difficulty transitioning and adjusting to college life

  • Homesickness

  • Roommate difficulties

  • Confusion about career or identity Feelings of isolation & loneliness

  • Depression and anxiety Relationship difficulties

  • Substance abuse

  • Body Image and eating disorders

  • Sexual assault and harassment

Currently enrolled students may be eligible to receive up to 16 sessions per calendar year. In all of our services, student privacy and confidentiality is respected and, outside of a few exceptions aimed at keeping the community safe, everything you share with a counselor is confidential and is not connected to your academic record in any way.

Appointments can be made by contacting us at the information below. In addition to regu- larly scheduled appointments, we also offer walk-in crisis services and 24/7 on-call services. For crises outside of normal business hours, contact KSU Public Safety at 7/423-6666 or the Georgia Crisis Line 1-800-715-4225 if you are away from campus.

Orientation Programs


The Office of New Student, Parent, and Family Orientation provides programs and services

that establish a solid foundation for successful academic, personal, and social adjustment to KSU for new students and their family members. In addition to being advised and registering for classes, orientation attendees are introduced to the policies, services, and involvement activities that will help them successfully transition to KSU. Also, orientation provides cur- rent full-time KSU students with the opportunity to hone their leadership skills by serving as a KSU Orientation Leader (OL). Testing Services


The staff coordinates all institutional testing, as well as career assessments and psycho-

educational testing. Testing personnel administer the ISAT, CLEP, COMPASS, Regents exam, History and Constitution exam, and other major testing programs.

Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery


The Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery, a division of Student Success

Services, provides an environment of collaboration which fosters the development of a peer

community for all students in recovery, alcohol and drug education and intervention services and national recognition in research and advancement in the field of young adult addiction and recovery. Staff is available on site in University College Building, Room 222, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to meet the needs of students.

The Collegiate Recovery Community supports students in recovery from addiction by offering weekly recovery meetings, a peer community program, and a safe, nurturing envi- ronment of support. Located in Willingham Hall, Room 128, the center is open to students in recovery from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. Behavioral Response Programs


Behavioral Response Programs (BRP) is a division of Student Success Services that

takes a planned and proactive approach to identifying and assisting students who are dis- tressed and/or exhibiting abnormal, threatening, or dangerous behavior. The work of BRP is guided by the overarching goals of maximizing student success and community safety. Behavioral Response is available for consultation and/or training in best practices in dealing with distressed, disruptive, or dangerous individuals. Additionally, an extension of BRP is the Behavioral Response Team, a multidisciplinary team representing a variety of campus offices that meets weekly to assess and manage any concerns that have been brought to its attention. Behavioral Response is located in the main Student Success Services offices in Kennesaw Hall, Room 2401 and can be reached at 7/423-6600.

Veterans Resource Office (VRO)


The Veterans Resource Center, a division of Student Success Services, provides resources

for the veteran community here at KSU. The office supports active and reserve military members, in addition to spouses and dependants. The VRC maintains information for cam- pus veteran related resources, links to local military support services, and contacts for local VA facilities.



Faculty and staff at Kennesaw State University are continuously educating themselves on the obstacles pertaining to veteran students returning from combat and transitioning to campus life. Our goal is to make this adjustment comfortable and for each student to achieve academic success. To learn more about the VRC, visit Room 1304 (inside the First-Year Advising office) at Kennesaw Hall.

Student-Athlete Success Services


Student-Athlete Success Services (SASS), located in the Student-Athlete Services build-

ing, is designed to provide academic support services to KSU's Division I, NCAA student- athletes. Advising services, study assistance, programming, tutoring, computer lab support, and volunteer opportunities are among the support services offered to student-athletes. Contact SASS at 678-797-2402.

Resource Room


The Resource Room, located in KH 2401, is open during regular office hours and no ap-

pointment is necessary. Among the printed materials, computer software and internet links offered, you can find: GCI and PINPOINT software for self-assessments, links for career training, the Occupational Outlook Handbook, WetFeet.com for smarter career decisions and other websites for employment projections and other career information. These links are provided on each of our lab computers for your convenience. In print you can find Peterson and Barrows guides to colleges and universities, catalogs from other colleges and universi- ties plus an assortment of related booklets and pamphlets. There is also a variety of books, brochures, and pamphlets on career exploration, personal counseling, and study skills.

Career Services Center

The Career Services Center is located on the second floor of Kennesaw Hall. Career



Services staff members are available to assist students and alumni with career-related con- cerns. You are encouraged to use these services early in your University career. Among the services offered are cooperative education and internship opportunities, job opening notices, on-campus recruitment for seniors and alumni, resume referral, and assistance with resume writing, interviewing and job searching.

Cooperative Education & Internships


Cooperative education combines formal academic study with periods of practical work

experience in business, industry and government. Co-op, which is open to most majors, provides a paid work experience directly related to your major. You will also earn academic credit. Internships also provide practical experience relating to your major. Most are paid experiences and all provide academic credit. Both types of learning by experience are integral components of education and supplement academic knowledge with personal and professional development.
