Margaret Ellsworth, of Oxford, on her 60-year pin commemorating her longtime membership with the Anderson-Staples American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 112. Mrs. Ellsworth joined the auxiliary in 1945 with her brother as her sponsor. She later transferred her membership under her husband and has continuously been very active within the Legion. She and her husband helped raise funds used to purchase the American Legion Beach, now known as Pismo Beach, in Oxford. She also helped raise funds that were used to build the War Memorial Building, now the Anderson-Staples Post 112 building, also in Oxford. Elspet Johnson, of Wilton, who has been presented with the Boston Post Cane for being the town's oldest resident. Mrs. Johnson was born in North Jay, and graduated from Wilton Academy. She continues to drive at the age of 97 and volunteers twice a week at Franklin Memorial Hospital, where she spent many years working as a registered nurse. Harry L. Smith, Jr., of Canton, on the occasion of being named Mason of the Year. He is a member of the Whitney Lodge #167, of the 20th Masonic District. Malcolm D. Toothaker, of Avon, upon the honored occasion of his 85th Birthday. A native of Madrid, one of proud twin brothers, he attended local schools and in 1939 at Phillips High School was awarded recognition as one of the top cross-country runners in the United States. A lifelong communicant of the Phillips Congregational Church, he has been a member of the Mt. Blue Masonic Lodge for 50 years and he has been married to his beloved wife, Beverly Greenleaf Toothaker for 51 years. As an independent contractor, he ran his own business all his life, building many homes for many families in his region. In 1960, he ran for the Maine Legislature. He proudly hand-built all the stone walls surrounding Miles Square in his hometown. We salute him as a symbol of the ;spirit of independence and perseverance which has built Maine, his beloved "Pine Tree State";(HLS 514)
Maurice "Monty" Toothaker, of Avon, upon the honored occasion of his 85th Birthday. A native of Madrid, he is one of twin sons born to Fred and Angie Toothaker. Raised at the family farm, he excelled in Phillips High School athletics and was inducted into the Maine Runners Hall of Fame in the 1990s. A proud veteran of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, and served in General Patton's Third Army during the race across Europe in the spring of 1945, for which he was awarded service medals. An avid outdoorsman, for over 50 years he has worked as an independent lumber dealer. His 5 sons have proudly served their state as game wardens and state policemen. We salute him as a symbol of the spirit of independence and perseverance which has built Maine, his beloved "Pine Tree State"; (HLS 515)

Ryan Crane, of Mechanic Falls, upon winning a WCSH Teens Who Care Award and a $1,000 scholarship. Ryan, a junior at Poland Regional High School, volunteers as a basketball coach to a dozen men and women from the John F. Murphy Homes day program in Auburn. These Special Olympians have learned basic basketball skills and will go on to compete in actual games during the regional spring Special Olympics.
