Mays Mission Scholarships

Mays Mission offers scholarships to deserving individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities. Our current program supports 7 college students. To qualify for a Mission scholarship one must be able to document a significant disability, score of 18 or better on the A.C.T or 870 on S.A.T., be enrolled in a four-year study program (under-graduate only) working toward a baccalaureate degree and provide proof of enrollment.

Upon acceptance to our program, recipients agree to provide proof of full-time enrollment each semester, submit grades, maintain a GPA of 2.3 and write an "update letter" providing the Mission with information pertaining to grades, struggles, triumphs, campus life and a general "how are you doing" letter. Recipients get $500 dollars each year for their 4 years of college. Deadline: June 30, 2010

Central Intelligence Agency Undergraduate Scholarship Program



The Undergraduate Scholar Program was developed, in part, to assist minority and disabled students, but application is open to all students who meet the requirements. The program offers unmatched experience. You'll complete work sessions during each summer break, increasing your knowledge and job responsibilities while assisting intelligence professionals and applying your academic skills.
Once selected, recipients will be given an annual salary; a benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, and retirement; and up to $18,000 per calendar year for tuition, mandatory fees, books and supplies. They will be required to work at an Agency facility during summer breaks and to maintain full-time college status during the school year with a minimum cumulative 3.0/4.0 GPA. We will pay the cost of transportation between school and the Washington, DC area each summer and provide a housing allowance. Deadline: November 1, 2009

Grant program for Students with Disabilities in Graduate Science Degree Programs


A goal of the Foundation for Science and Disability is to increase opportunities in science for disabled students. To promote this goal, the foundation has established a Science Student Grant Fund, available to fourth year undergraduate (who have been accepted to graduate or professional school) and graduate students who have a disability.  The students must be United States citizens. 
Awards of $1000 each will be made to college or university students for some special purpose in connection with a science project or thesis in any field of Mathematics, Science, Medicine, Engineering, or Computer Science.  An award could be given for assistive device or instrument, or as financial support to work with a professor on an individual research project or for some other special research need. Deadline: December 1, 2009

The Loreen Arbus Focus on Disability Scholarship for Student Filmmakers

This $10,000 award was created to recognize student filmmakers who: shed light on people with disabilities, the nation's largest minority group; help emerging artists within this community gain recognition; and increase visibility for artists with disabilities


This award will be given to a student writer, student producer or student director who is disabled, to a student producer whose piece focuses on people with disabilities, or to a student piece that features a person with a disability as one of the main characters. Deadline: January 13, 2010

John Weir Scholarship

The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors living or going to school in Washtenaw, Livingston and Monroe Counties for its John Weir Scholarship.  The scholarship is open to seniors with all types of disabilities, including learning, cognitive, developmental, physical, visual, and hearing disabilities, as well as autism/Asperger’s, mental health and chronic health conditions, such as cancer. 


The scholarship is for those going to a two- or four-year college or a trade school after high school. The winner gets a $500 scholarship (with the possibility of an addition $500 for the following three years of college) and becomes the CIL’s youth spokesperson.  Runners-up receive smaller one-time scholarships. Harriett G. Jenkins Pre-doctoral Fellowship Program (JPFP)

This program increases the number of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities participating in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) workforce, thereby helping to eliminate the shortage of skilled workers in STEM-related disciplines.
Annually, approximately 20 three-year fellowships are awarded to support graduate students in their pursuit of advanced degrees in the STEM disciplines. Annual stipends for students pursuing master’s degrees start at $18,000. Annual stipends for students pursuing doctoral degrees start at $24,000. Deadline: February 8, 2010

American Library Association (ALA) Century Scholarship

The American Library Association's annual $2,500 ASCLA Century Scholarship will fund services or accommodation for a library school student or students with disabilities admitted to an ALA-accredited library school.


The scholarship will fund services or accommodations that are either not provided by law or otherwise by the university that will enable the student or students to successfully complete the course of study for a Master's or Doctorate in Library Science and become a library or information studies professional. Deadline: Must be received by March 1, 2010

Novotni Scholarship for Students with AD/HD

The Novotni College Scholarship Fund provides 3 levels of scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for tuition. Applicants must be accepted or attending an approved college or university as an undergraduate student and have been diagnosed with AD/HD by a licensed physician or mental health professional.


Applicants can reapply each year for the scholarship. Note that the scholarship application link is at the very bottom of their website. Deadline: March 15, 2010
