Specific project components include, site grading, trail construction, roads, and parking. In addition, a LEED certified Lodge facility will be constructed as well as two beaches and a small marina. Applicant: City of Coralville Project Name: Coralville Center for the Performing Arts City: Coralville (Population 17,269) Date of Award: 5/13/2009 Total Project Cost: $10,166,330 Amount Requested: $1,800,000 Amount Awarded: $1,600,000 Project Description: This project will consist of the turnkey purchase of a 518-seat theater on land purchased by the City of Coralville and transferred to Southgate Development Services under an urban renewal agreement for private development. The theater will be built by Southgate Development Services as part of the larger Plaza on 5th facility. The theater will then be sold to the City of Coralville upon completion. Applicant: City of North Liberty Project Name: North Liberty Welcome and History Center City: North Liberty (Population 7,224) Date of Award: 8/8/2007 Total Project Cost: $530,000 Amount Requested: $141,000 Amount Awarded: $50,000 Project Description: This project is the adaptive reuse of a 1908 Victorian style house as a Welcome Center and History Center along with the City of North Liberty’s Communication Department offices. Major improvements will include: geothermal heating & cooling and a 20 kilowatt wind turbine, a 24’ octagon pavilion for city events, a 14’x14’gazebo for outdoor seating in the garden area, restoration of gardens to original flora with heirloom plants typical of the period, and parking for community center activities. Applicant: City of Coralville Project Name: Coralville Public Library Renovation and Expansion City: Coralville (Population 17,269) Date of Award: 7/13/2005 Total Project Cost: $14,068,090 Amount Requested: $1,880,000 Amount Awarded: $930,000 Project Description: The City of Coralville plans to expand and renovate the City’s Public Library. When completed, the facility will be approximately 50,000 square feet and more than double the current library space. There will also be a generous 350 space parking area that is to be located adjacent to the library. The project includes development of a trail around an existing pond, a pedestrian bridge, trail connections, the creation of a waterfall, the addition of fountains, a pavilion, a pier, lighting, and benches and boulderscaping and landscaping. Usage of that center has exceeded expectations and the community would like to build phase II of the project. Project Name: Englert Civic Theatre City: Iowa City (Population 62,380) Date of Award: 9/18/2002 Total Project Cost: $4,308,510 Amount Requested: $1,540,420 Amount Awarded: $800,000 Project Description: In three stages, local leaders plan to restore the Englert Theater. State funds are requested to assist the completion of stage II, which includes installing elevators to make the theater compliant with ADA standards, renovating the second and third floors to accommodate Arts Iowa City and the Iowa City Community Theater Incubator. Stage II also calls for the restoration of the auditorium in accordance with the original 1926 blueprints, and bringing the stage area up to modern standards by installing new rigging, lighting and sound systems. Jones Applicant: The Fair and Exposition Society of Jones County, Iowa Project Name: Jones County Youth Development Center City: Monticello (Population 3,607) Date of Award: 10/12/2011 Total Project Cost: $1,129,915 Amount Requested: $282,478 Amount Awarded: $200,000 Project Description: This project includes the construction of new Jones County Youth Development Center located at the Monticello City Park/Fairgrounds. This facility will serve as the headquarters for the Jones County Extension and 4-H youth activities, as well as the Jones County Fair. The bridge will be repaired and moved two miles outside the city of Anamosa. The bridge will be located between Wapsipinicon State Park and Shaw Road, serving pedestrian traffic and connecting a City/ County trail system to the State Park. Local citizens are currently involved in a capital campaign to replace the existing library, an historic 1903 limestone structure that holds great sentimental value to the community but is inadequate for the information needs of a modern, growing constituency. In addition to reading and research needs, the library expects wide use of its meeting room, genealogy materials, distance education programs, and electronic resources. The facility will be handicapped accessible and will incorporate several energy efficient features. On the main floor, the renovation focuses mainly on improving the patron experience. A new digital marquee will greet visitors and alert passers-by of the many events being held at the theatre. The main vestibule will connect directly to the box office, which previously had been located in tenant space along 3rd St. Down the hall from the box office will be the relocated library, named in honor of the late Fed Hedges. The location of the library to a storefront space will make the space much more visible to the public and encourage greater use of its resources. The major change to the layout of the building will be the expanded lobby. By relocating the offices to the second floor, the lobby will nearly double in size. This will also allow for larger, code-compliant restrooms. Along 1st Avenue, two storefronts tenant spaces will be captured by the theatre and combined into a lounge area. The second floor tenet space, which was previously divided into many small offices, will be cleared out to allow for an open staff office and a rehearsal space, which will include a music room and additional restrooms. Finally, the basement will be reorganized and contain the actors’ quarters including new dressing rooms, make-up room, costume construction, microphone storage and rehearsal space. Applicant: City of Center Point Project Name: Fross Park Expansion & Improvements City: Center Point (Population 2,007) Date of Award: 10/11/2006 Total Project Cost: $2,700,000 Amount Requested: $675,000 Amount Awarded: $540,000 Project Description: Fross Park is a 44-acre park that sits on the northern side of Center Point. Improvements will be made to the existing picnic area, playground, concession stand, two soccer fields, and two ball diamonds. The project will expand the park by including a 1.2 mile walking trail, a tennis court, a basketball court, a skate park, and splash pad. Two safe entrances will be added along with three parking areas. In addition, four new irrigated soccer fields and three new ball diamonds will be added to the park.
