Finally, the Thomas theory involves a somewhat lengthy tangent into the particularities of JBR’s underwear habits. But the essence of the hypothesis is that PR, upon finding that JBR had wet her bed again, did at some point remove the red sweater she had placed on her earlier, which was then wet, and set it in the sink (or on the below) in JBR’s private bathroom. This would seem to draw the interaction between them into the bathroom where it makes sense that PR would attempt to clean her there. Only after some rage, then, did the child’s head trauma occur. Reddish colored stains found on the “inner aspect of the crotch”; i.e. the inner thighs at the point where they meet the abdomen were noted in the autopsy report (more later). While consistent with the staining of the sweater, they do not match in location. In other words, if wet in bed the stain should appear higher on the child’s abdomen, not at its lowest point. This stain remains a mystery we will solve later.

A search for the size 12 underwear found on her body was initiated but police were unable to find it anywhere in the bedroom or the rest of the house, including the “wine cellar”. Presents there seemed to have been “peeked” into as if someone were looking for a package of something. But the underwear package, ostensibly wrapped for PR’s niece who was the original intended recipient of the underwear, could not be found. This might suggest, as a twist to the Thomas theory, that JBR and PR were in the “wine cellar” that night both looking for the underwear. We shall see in what follows that that is in fact likely what happened.
