The Welsh Junior and youth Triathlon Championships will be held at Cosmeston Sprint, which also incorporates the Senior Welsh Sprint Triathlon Championships on 2ND June. To be eligible for Welsh championship events, athletes must me members of the WTA.

Please note that age is determined by year of birth not on race day.

Competitors must be a member of the WTA to be automatically included in the appropriate series. The cost of Membership is £5, forms can be acquired from the WTA web-site www.welshtri.org.uk and click on WTA/membership, or contact Tom Roberts on 02920514379

The series consists of seven events, with the best four results to count.

Points will be awarded to athletes on the basis of the individuals finishing time. Each eligible competitor will be given a score when they complete a series event. The first series competitor will be awarded 10, 000 points. Any other finisher will be awarded points based on the winners time expressed as a percentage of their own and multiplied by 100. Series results will be calculated after each event and published on the WTA web-site www.welshtri.org.uk. At the end of the series awards will be presented to the top three boys and girls in each of the two year age bands (9/10, 11/12, 13/14. Although 8 year olds will be eligible for awards at individual events on the same basis as other age groups, it has not been considered appropriate to include them in the National series. This restriction is intended to reduce the competitive pressure on such young athletes.

All races carry equal points scoring irrespective of distances.

Athletes who do not compete in an event or fail to finish will score 0 points.

At least 4 races must have been completed.

At least 2 of the 4 races must have been Triathlons.

If a competitor completes less than four races, the other races will count as 0 points.

In an event of a tie, the athlete with the highest number of finishing positions in all races will be the overall winner.

Parents/Guardians/Accompanying adults, Infringement of the following will result in disqualification of the competitor:

Foul or abusive language

Failing to treat officials with respect

Failing to obey marshals

Outside assistance
-
Tampering with the equipment of others

UN sporting impedance
Parental consent
Event organisers must obtain written consent from the child’s parent or guardian that their child has permission to compete, is fit and healthy, that their child’s cycle is roadworthy, and they agree to abide by rules of the Welsh and British Triathlon Association.
There will be two National Series –
One for Children aged between 9 and 14, and one for Youths 15/16.
Each series will comprise of five races with the best three results to count.

The Rivington Triathlon will also be the selection event for the European Youth Relay
Championships, to be held in Graz, Austria on 27th July 2002. (This event will cater For competitors aged between 14 – 17 years.
