Dr. Clyde Payne

Dr. Clyde Payne is the Dowling Dean of Students. He has serve in the position of dean of the School of Education at Dowling College from 2000-2012. Dr. Payne was a public school educator for over thirty-eight years, teaching high school mathematics for the West Babylon School District, in addition to holding several positions, as department chair, assistant principal, and principal, in schools for the East Islip School district. Dr. Payne has been active in his community, where he helped start the first Head Start Program for the Bay Shore community. He has served as a board member and chair of the South Side Hospital Board of Trustees and Community Board, as well as a member of the North Shore-LIJ health system board of Trustees. Dr. Payne has been married to his wife, Constance for almost 50 years. They have three children and three grandchildren.

 

Ms. Stephanie Sandoval My name is Stephanie Sandoval I am 23 years old I am an alumna from Dowling College where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Romance Languages. During my Undergraduate experience I was former president of the Spanish club "La Familia" educating our Dowling Community about our Latino culture. In my senior year I was President of the Student Government Association. Currently I am an Admissions counselor at this institution working with students who are interested in applying to our school as well as answering questions about the college process. I love working with students in higher education! With both my parents from Latin America I am proud to say that I did it and so can you!

Ms. Jessica Gonzalez

My name is Jessica Gonzalez; I am a senior, graduating in May 2013. My major is in Special Education Adolescent with a concentration in Romance languages (Spanish and French). I am a first generation college graduate. I was born and raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. My parents emigrate from the Dominican Republic. I am currently the president of La Familia club at Dowling. I enjoy being an active figure on and off campus. I have such a deep passion for educating people of all ages.

 
Keynote:

Attorney Dana T. Davidson

Dana Davison is the principal of Davidson Law Group, P.C. with offices in Glen Cove and New York City. She has over 20 years of experience and focuses primarily on all aspects of immigration and nationality law, representing major multinational corporations, including computer software companies, financial institutions, internet services providers, pharmaceutical consultancies, religious organizations and other non-profit corporations. Ms. Davidson also represent individuals, including world renowned authors, cinematographers, models, journalists, entrepreneurs, artists and musicians, whom she advises on procuring temporary and permanent employment-based visas. She also advises on the regulatory and compliance issues attendant to this practice area including corporate and I-9 compliance. Ms. Davidson began her legal career as in-house corporate counsel at Philips Credit Corp, a subsidiary of N.V. Philips, and thereafter at Unity Healthcare Holding Company, practicing in the areas of general corporate law, large scale commercial banking and real estate transactions, employment law, employment-based immigration law, and overseeing all litigation matters.

SUSANNE BLEIBERG SEPERSON, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Dowling College, Oakdale, New York and the Director of the Center for Intergenerational Policy and Practice at Dowling College. She received her graduate degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She is a past president of the New York State Sociological Association and past president of the Dowling College Chapter of New York State United Teachers faculty union. Dr. Bleiberg Seperson has received grants from the United Nations Academic Impact Program (UNAI/YadVashem), National Institute of Mental Health, the International Research Exchange (IREX) Foundation, and the Foundation for Long Term Care. She was honored by the New York State United Teachers union as a Higher Education Member of the Year in 2003, received the Ph.D. Alumni Association Special Achievement Award from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 2005, and was honored by the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation at their Annual Remembrance Ball for her work with the Intergenerational Center in 2010. In 2012 she was honored to be asked to serve as a representative for Generations United, a non-governmental organization in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. In 2012 she also received a grant to participate in a United Nations Academic Impact Program on Holocaust history at YadVashem in Jerusalem, Israel.She is also the co-editor of Elder Care and Service Learning: A Handbook, and past Executive Editor of the Journal of Business and Economic Studies. She has been a member of evaluation teams of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education as well as an outside evaluator at numerous colleges.

Dr. John Vargas

I have an interest in applied mathematics, specifically differential equations, partial differential equations, integral transforms, and wave propagation in elastic solids. This interest extends to the qualitative study of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. I also have an interest in military history. From a non-academic perspective, I am a fan of several sports including baseball, basketball, football and soccer. The soccer interest stems from thirteen years of coaching in CYO and the Long Island Junior Soccer League. Dr. Isaac Rosler

Associate Professor of Foreign Language
I experienced a shift in my education when I decided to change my career from business to literature.
My educational background is the following:

Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, U. of Texas at Austin (1990-95)

I have been the advisor for The International Club at Dowling for the past five years, and we meet regularly during each academic year. Occasionally we organize trips to Manhattan, Washington DC and Philadelphia.

Mr. SixtoPortilla

 Mr. Portilla is an adjunct lecturer of Marine Sciences and runs the marine labs in the Department of Earth and Marine Sciences at Dowling College. He is also a Ph.D. candidate in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the City University of NY. He spends a great deal of time in boats and at Dowling’s new research center – C.E.E.C.O.M. – where he studies the physical and living environment of Great South Bay.

Dr. Albert Inserra

Dr. Albert Inserra is currently the Chair of the Department of Educational Administration, Leadership and Technology. He has been on the faculty at Dowling since 2002. During that time he has mentored over 50 doctoral students, serving as their chair or design.  Prior to coming to Dowling, he was a Superintendent of Schools in two different school districts in Nassau County, Carle Place for 10 years and Port Washington for seven. He began his career in education 45 years ago as a science teacher. He earned his doctorate in Educational Administration from Fordham University in 1980. In his capacity as Chair of the Department, he serves on numerous college wide committees and has a particular interest in school leadership.

Ms. Linda Prentiss

Linda Prentiss is an adjunct professor in the Visual Arts department at Dowling College, teaching graphic design, art history and studio courses. She is also the studio manager for the Graphics Computer Lab. She graduated from Stony Brook University and C.W. Post, Long Island University with an M.F.A. degree. She is an active printmaker with an international exhibition record, and also does freelance illustration and layout design. 

Dr. Luis Rivera

Dr. Luis E. Rivera has been a faculty member for Dowling for years. He loves working with Dowling and its students. He has served as a consultant for the International Monetary Fund’s Money and Capital Markets Division. He was an International Lending Officer for Manufacturers Hanover Trust, a major money center bank. He is currently Full Professor of Finance and at the College. He currently serves on the boards of the Northeast Decision Sciences Institute, the Northeast Business & Economics Association, and the Global Business & Technology Association. He has published in various books, journals, and proceedings, such as the International Journal of Commerce and Management, The Journal of Business and Society, The International Journal of Economic Research, The International Journal of Business, Accounting and Finance, The American Business Review, The Journal of Applied Business Research, International Business and Management, the Journal of Global Business & Technology, and International Business Research. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Business & Economic Studies. My formal education includes a Ph.D., an M.A., and a B.A..
