6.15 Truancy


Truancy (missing a class without prior parental or school authorization) will result in a suspension and a zero grade for all work missed.

6.16 Vehicle Use


Students with a valid driver’s license are permitted to purchase a campus parking permit for $25.00 with the required paperwork. Students who become eligible during second semester may purchase a parking permit for $15.00. RBCS requires that student driver’s participate in the school Drug Testing Program. Students who operate their vehicle in an unsafe manner will lose their driving privileges for a time designated by the Academy principal.

7.0 Extra-curricular Activities


Extracurricular activities at Rocky Bayou Christian School develop in students the Christian character and skills necessary to fulfill God’s calling in their lives. All of the extra-curricular activities at RBCS are designed to encourage interested students to participate. Students who participate in extra-curricular activities many times find that it gives them positive motivation in their academic studies. No one is permitted to participate in any extra-curricular activity of RBCS who is not a currently enrolled student at the school or enrolled through HSAP and meets all of the eligibility requirements for that particular activity.

7.1 Athletics


RBCA fields Middle School and Varsity football, Middle School and Varsity soccer (boys and girls), Varsity golf (boys), Middle School, and Varsity basketball (boys and girls), JV and Varsity volleyball (girls), Middle School and Varsity Cross-Country (boys and girls), Middle School and Varsity baseball (boys) and Middle School and Varsity softball (girls), Varsity tennis (boys and girls), Varsity weightlifting (boys and girls), Varsity Swimming (boys and girls), Middle School and Varsity track and field (boys and girls), JV and Varsity Cheerleading (girls), and Competitive Cheer (girls) as part of the extracurricular program.

7.2 Fine and Performing Arts

7.2.1 Music


The Concert Choir and the Chamber Choir earn high school credits for RBCA students. The choirs compete with those of other Christian schools annually, as well as performing in the community, in chapel services, and on choir tours. Marching Band/Symphonic Band and Jazz Band are also an options for RBCA students, where high school students may earn credit, as well as participate in a wide range of extra competitions and performances. Choir and Band students prepare for FACCS competition in the early spring.

7.2.2 Speech and Drama


RBCA also offers Speech and Drama. Both classes prepare for competitions and the Drama class stages multiple plays throughout the year. Drama and Speech students also prepare for the FACCS competition in the spring.

7.2.3 Art


Art is also an RBCA elective. Students may work toward competitions and juried shows as well as develop an AP art portfolio. Also, RBCA competes annually in the Congressional Art Show and the FACCS Fine Arts Competition.

7.3 Academic Contests


Academy students participate in a wide-variety of academic contests, including but not limited to spelling bees, math competitions, creative writing festivals, history essay contests, speech contests, and general subject tests. Many of these contests are built into Academy courses and are administered as class assignments. Others are extra-curricular and may require small fees for participation.

7.4 Clubs


In addition to our flexible and comprehensive curriculum, we have extracurricular activities for which no academic credit is normally given. These can include Leadership Trek, Academic Team, Culinary Club, Jr. and Sr. Beta Club, Junior Classical League, Yearbook Staff, Mu Alpha Theta, Math Counts, Yearbook Staff, Tri-M Honor Society, Chess Club, Science Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Art Club, and Shakespeare Club. Various other interest clubs also are offered.

7.5 Student Leadership

7.5.1 Philosophy and Purpose


Student Leadership at RBCS develops in students the Christian character and skills necessary to fulfill God’s calling on their lives by serving God and his people in his world. Building on the solid foundation of knowledge laid by RBCS’s academic program and extending the character development nurtured by RBCS’s discipleship and athletic programs, Student Leadership meets RBCS’s mission of developing the whole person to impact the world.

Any student may apply to join Student Leadership if he or she has maintained a B average (is not on academic probation) and attends church faithfully. Students apply in August each year.

Since Student Leadership is designed to help students grow in the character and skills of a Christian servant, each member of Student Leadership is expected to commit himself or herself to grow faithfully in:

Loving God with all their hearts and their neighbors as themselves,

Building others up in Christ-likeness,

Speaking and acting truly and rightly (according to the Honor Code),

Humbly accepting the correction of peers and leaders and

Attending church faithfully.


7.5.2 High School Student Leadership (Grades 9-12)

7.5.2.1 Roles


  • The Head Prefect oversees each of the other prefects in their particular responsibilities and, in attitude and action, sets the direction and tone of Student Leadership as a whole. The Head Prefect leads the Honor Council. The Discipleship Director advises the Head Prefect.

  • Prefects are seniors who lead committees of students with a focus on a given area. There are six prefects, each responsible to lead one committee: Academic, Athletic, Development, Discipleship, Service and Social.

  • Chairs are seniors with significant responsibility within a committee. There are four chair-level positions: the Secretary (who works with the Head Prefect), the Clubs Chair and the Fine Arts Chair (who work with the Academic Prefect) and the Events Chair (who works with the Development Prefect).

  • Assistants are juniors who help prefects. Each prefect has one assistant.

  • Advisors are faculty or staff members who advise prefects and chairs. Advisors offer counsel and accountability but are not to direct or coordinate the prefects and chairs in their responsibilities.

7.5.2.2 Meetings and Responsibilities


Service in Student Leadership requires a significant commitment of time and effort. The more responsibility a student leader has, the more he or she should expect to miss a class from time to time, stay after school or invest time in evenings or on weekends to prepare for events or work on projects.

Students meet regularly during class time according to the following schedule.



  • The Head Prefect meets weekly with the Discipleship Director, who serves as Faculty Advisor to Student Leadership.

  • All prefects, chairs and assistants meet for weekly with the Discipleship Director and other prefect advisors.

  • Each prefect meets with his or her advisor, assistant and committee for one class period every four weeks.

Through reflecting on leadership and planning for upcoming events, these meetings are designed to nurture real growth in the principles and practices of Christian leadership.


All new prefects, chairs and assistants are expected to participate in the following summertime events: Memorial Day Orientation and two or three summer service projects. Finally, all students in Student Leadership are invited to attend the three-day Leadership Retreat and the Leadership Banquet in the spring.

The responsibilities of each prefect and his or her committee are real and significant. Each student involved must:



  • Attend meetings faithfully

  • Make up work for all classes missed due to meetings or other responsibilities

  • Maintain at least a B average (not be placed on academic probation).

Students who do not meet these requirements faithfully may be removed from Student Leadership.

7.5.2.3 Appointment Process for Prefects, Chairs and Assistants


The administration seeks exemplary student leaders who have shown that they will

  • Use their position to equip others, not to hold onto their own power

  • Lead other students effectively in planning and running events

  • Delegate roles and responsibilities ably

Each spring, the administration uses the following process with much prayer to appoint prefects, chairs and assistants for the following school year.



  1. Graduating seniors name those juniors and sophomores they think will serve the school well as prefects, chairs or assistants. Because students usually know students better than faculty do, the selection committee considers the seniors’ nominations carefully.

  2. Juniors and sophomores interested in serving as prefects, chairs or assistants submit an application, stating their commitment to and their interests in Student Leadership and listing a pastor, a faculty or staff member and a prefect as references.

  3. The selection committee considers the seniors’ recommendations, reviews the juniors’ and sophomores’ applications, checks with references and selects a shortlist of candidates.

  4. The selection committee interviews candidates.

  5. The administration appoints prefects, chairs and assistants from among the candidates.

While participation and leadership in Student Leadership often enhances a student’s résumé as he or she applies to university, as the selection committee reviews each applicant, it does not consider whether or how rigorous the admission standards of the applicant’s preferred university may be. Student Leadership aims to help growing leaders develop the personal character and skills necessary to serve God and His people as a leader.


7.5.3 Junior High Student Leadership (Grades 7-8)


Junior High Student Leadership helps students in grades 7 and 8 grow as servant-leaders. The Faculty Advisor to Junior High Student Leadership coordinates three Chairs—academic, service and social—each of whom leads a committee of fellow students. The Faculty Advisor and the Chairs meet every two weeks. Each Chair also attends all meetings of the corresponding High School committee.
