Intro-
We Can
Improve Public Transportation with Cellular Mass Transit
We can Cut wait time on circulator routes from 30 minutes to 10
Reduce travel time, in many cases by half.
Provide shelter & security at transfer points
Expand coverage in low density areas.
Increase ridership three fold
Why Improve Public Transit ?
Better Public Transit could save the working poor $320 million / year
CMT would increase work destinations public transit can reach,
in 90 minutes, from 22% to more than 80%
Public transit ridership would jump 3 fold from 40,000 to 120,000
With 80,000 new riders each saving $4000 a year, savings would total $320 million /year
More detail on how savings are calculated later
How would CMT improve public transit ?
CMT would be a combination of Bus Rapid Transit & Shared Taxi Van
It would use Measures to speed bus travel, like Hot Lanes and Signal Priority
Transit centers would have fast board gates.
Routes would have more frequent service : Every 10 minutes instead of every 30
Most vehicle miles would be run by vans.
What is wrong with Conventional Bus Service?
Existing Service has Problems
Too Slow : For example a 22 mile trip from East Oltorf to Lakeline Mall takes 2 hrs 40 min.
There are Long Waits: On most routes the wait between buses is 30 minutes or more.
Transfer Conditions are poor .
Transfer points Lack shelter, Air Conditioning, and security,
Conventional Bus is Too Slow.
A 22 mile trip can take 160 minutes.
The bus makes 10 stops per mile.
Averages only 11 mph.
Transfers are not sheltered.
A worst case transfer could take 30-40 minutes

Minor routes have 30+ minutes between buses
Example trip from Oltorf and Pleasant Valley to Lakeline Mall takes 2 hours and 40 minutes according to cap metro trip planner.
